Mechanical Technician

Location: Exeter, Devon, GB

Salary: £49,129.00 per year

Job Type: Full-time (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday plus a 1 in 4 callout)

Closing Date: 30th September 2026

About the Role

Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.

We have an opportunity in Exeter for a Mechanical Technician to join our team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Carrying out planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance activities
  • Diagnosing faults and ensuring plant equipment is maintained to a high standard
  • Supporting plant reliability and availability through effective maintenance practices
  • Working safely within Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work procedures, including plant isolations
  • Contributing to the delivery of maintenance plans and performance targets
  • Assisting in the development of scopes of work and engineering specifications for external contractors where required
  • Promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and site procedures

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a practical, safety-focused maintenance professional with experience in a heavy industrial, process or power generation environment.

You'll Ideally Have

  • Experience carrying out both planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • A proven track record of delivering maintenance work safely, efficiently and within environmental and operational requirements
  • Knowledge of mechanical repair methods, machinery and equipment used within heavy industrial or process plant environments
  • Experience working within Permit to Work and Safe System of Work processes
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programmes and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Some experience creating scopes of work or engineering specifications for externally contracted work
  • A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and its practical application within an industrial setting
  • A recognised engineering qualification, such as a City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), supported by a completed apprenticeship

While not essential, experience working within an Energy from Waste (EfW) facility, power station, or similar process industry, together with an understanding of EfW operations and plant processes, would be highly desirable.
