Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Berkhamsted or Birmingham | Hybrid Working

I'm currently working with a well-established, privately owned engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing Building Services team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the residential, commercial, education, industrial, cultural and regeneration sectors, delivering innovative and sustainable mechanical building services solutions from concept through to completion.

The business has built a strong reputation for delivering complex developments across the UK and offers a collaborative environment where engineers are trusted to take ownership of their work, contribute new ideas and develop their careers.

The Role

Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering mechanical building services designs across a range of exciting projects. Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing HVAC, mechanical and public health systems, including calculations, specifications and technical drawings.
  • Producing drawings using AutoCAD (Revit experience is advantageous).
  • Carrying out energy modelling using IES software, including Part L compliance, overheating analysis, TM54, BREEAM HEA04 and Net Zero Carbon assessments where applicable.
  • Completing SAP calculations and producing domestic EPCs.
  • Supporting projects through all design stages, from concept to detailed design and technical coordination.
  • Undertaking site surveys and preparing reports on existing mechanical installations.
  • Assisting with contract administration during construction.
  • Carrying out witnessing and commissioning activities during project handover.
  • Liaising with clients, architects, contractors and wider design teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
