Mechanics Manager


About the Role

Would you like to be instrumental in enabling the next generation of semiconductors?

Are you an experienced Mechanics Manager with knowledge of mechanical design best practices, able to provide technical leadership and development to our mechanics team? Would you enjoy working with senior leaders to shape the mechanics strategy for Infinitesima, including introducing effective tools to ensure the team operates efficiently?

Daily Responsibilities

A typical day in the Mechanics Manager role may include:

  • Leading and developing the mechanics team, supporting career growth through:
    • Recruitment
    • Mentoring
    • Training
    • Performance reviews
  • Providing technical leadership to ensure high-standard work, consistent quality, and capability growth
  • Collaborating with senior leaders to:
    • Shape mechanics strategy
    • Propose and manage tools and resources for team efficiency
  • Driving continuous improvement in:
    • Products
    • Processes
    • Tools
    • People
  • Working with architects and project leads to:
    • Break down requirements
    • Ensure successful project delivery
  • Managing stakeholders across the business, including:
    • Partnering with technical teams, departments, and functions
    • Selecting, contracting, and managing external partners
    • Flexing short-term capacity and capability as needed

Requirements

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Self-motivated, able to inspire team members to achieve their best
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design best practices, applied pragmatically and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) in English
  • At least three years of leadership experience
  • Circa five years’ experience as a mechanical engineer in industry, involving:
    • Design work
    • FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
    • DFM (Design for Manufacturing)
    • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Extensive hands-on mechanical design experience using:
    • SolidWorks
    • EPDM (Engineering Data Management)
  • Ability to drive BoM (Bill of Materials) structure via CAD, including documentation
  • Comprehensive understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), including:
    • Requirements reviewing
    • Design reviews
    • ECR (Engineering Change Requests)
    • Revision management

Nice to Have:

  • Project management experience
  • Assistance with first article builds and quality inspections (in collaboration with the NPI team)
  • Proficiency in JIRA or similar issue-tracking software
  • Experience managing external partnerships within delivery timelines
  • Background in environmental management, including:
    • Vibration/acoustic analysis
    • Temperature assessment

Education/Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanics or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Preferable: Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent ongoing professional recognition
  • Other scientific/technical disciplines considered with relevant experience
