Media & Communications
Ministerial Services are seeking expressions of interest from talented professionals who are interested in working in a Ministerial office in the 55th Executive Government. These roles offer a rare opportunity to work at the heart of government, contributing to decisions and initiatives that have a direct impact on New Zealand communities while gaining experience in one of the country's most dynamic and unique working environments.
Media and Communications roles ensure that all media communications from a Minister’s office are consistent with the agreed priorities and messages of the Government. You will develop effective relationships with a range of individuals, or groups including Ministers, Caucus, coalition and support parties. You will have an understanding of the issues impacting the Minister, their portfolio(s) and of the Government’s objectives/priorities. You could be the sole Media and Communications person in an office, or work closely with a team to support a senior Minister’s office.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
