Overview of the Role
The London based Media Relations AVP plays an important role on Nuveen’s Global Media Relations team and will work in partnership with colleagues across the team to amplify the firm’s key differentiators. They are responsible for priority public markets media activity in EMEA and will report into the VP, Media Relations, EMEA. The role will work closely with internal stakeholders and implement PR campaigns to leverage key news announcements and thought leadership. The role also involves close partnership with the firm’s PR agency network and marketing colleagues to implement localised campaigns across regions.
Media Relations sits within the Marketing function, and the candidate will be expected to work closely across various functions to execute a cohesive mar-comms plan.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Gain a thorough understanding of the Nuveen business, with a focus on but not limited to fixed income, equities and macro views
- Identify news opportunities and advise on how to communicate to and secure coverage with trade, financial and business media
- Leverage agency network to ensure press coverage in global, mainstream and local media
- Maintain contact programmes with media for key fund managers and spokespeople to ensure Nuveen’s direct relationships with key journalists and publications
- Plan PR campaigns for key funds/assets (new and existing)
- Monitor forward features across key publications and ensure Nuveen commentary where possible
- Assist in development of new ideas for communicating intelligence and news (such as newsletters)
- Manage administrative tasks such as monthly reports, forward planning, press cuttings, invoices
- Produce written material in the form of press releases, articles, speech writing, and presentations
- Co-ordinate and align with the wider Nuveen media relations team, supporting the VP based in London as needed
- Monitor key media and circulate relevant and important stories
- Support on management of agency network with willingness to travel abroad as required

Technical Skills & Qualifications Required
- Degree educated
- Experience working on financial and investment comms
- Cross border experience a benefit
Competencies Required
- Enthusiastic individual, with a collegiate approach, able to work in a culturally diverse organisation and at different levels of the business
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to express complex issues succinctly and clearly to business partners
- Strong organisational skills
- Demonstrates diligence, analytical approach and works proactively to resolve issues
- Able to think independently and challenge in an appropriate manner
- Exhibits influencing skills
- Experience of working on a broad range of matters with a flexible attitude
- Comfortable operating in/with a multi-location and multi-national extended team
- Able to operate under time pressure
- Established relationships with journalists across the property and investment media
- Proven ability to network within the business to ensure access to full information
- Demonstrable capability in planning and co-ordinating cross-border media communication
- Understanding of what makes ‘news’
- Established credentials in developing and implementing specific campaigns.
- Ability to multi-task
