What's the role?
The Medical / Clinical Systems Lead at Eta Projects is responsible for the coordination, integration and technical oversight of specialist healthcare engineering systems and clinical equipment interfaces across the project. The role acts as the principal link between the core MEP design teams, clinical stakeholders, specialist suppliers/CDP designers, Authorising Engineers and the wider multidisciplinary design team.
The role is not intended to undertake all specialist design directly. Instead, it ensures that the requirements, interfaces, responsibilities and programme inputs from the various clinical-system specialists are clearly defined, coordinated and incorporated into the overall MEP design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate specialist clinical systems including medical gases, medical/surgical air and vacuum, pneumatic tube systems, theatre systems, UCV, theatre control panels, medical pendants, sterilisation/autoclave interfaces, imaging systems and other specialist clinical equipment.
- Establish and maintain the clinical systems interface schedule showing responsibilities between Eta Teams, OEMs, CDP specialists and other designers.
- Coordinate departmental clinical requirements with MEP infrastructure, including electrical power, resilient supplies, ventilation, cooling, drainage, water, data, controls, alarms and structural interfaces.
- Ensure specialist requirements are incorporated into plantrooms, risers, ceiling zones, equipment rooms and clinical spaces before design freezes.
- Review specialist/CDP design submissions for compatibility with the overall engineering strategy and adjacent MEP systems.
- Coordinate specialist design inputs with the Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and Medical Gas discipline leads.
- Support clinical stakeholder engagement where engineering decisions affect operational workflows or specialist equipment.
- Coordinate requirements for critical clinical areas such as operating theatres, imaging, endoscopy, aseptic facilities, CSSD, laboratories and other high-risk environments where applicable.
- Ensure applicable HTM/HBN requirements, Trust standards and project technical criteria are reflected within the specialist-system interfaces.
- Identify interface gaps, overlaps and scope boundaries between specialist suppliers before procurement and construction.
- Coordinate with the CDP Integration Lead to track specialist design maturity, information releases and package dependencies.
- Coordinate with the Commissioning / IST Lead so that testing, validation, integrated systems testing and operational readiness requirements are considered during design rather than after installation.
- Support assessment of specialist technical submissions, proposed manufacturers and system selections.
- Maintain visibility of specialist-system risks, assumptions, departures and outstanding technical decisions.
- Confirm that specialist packages are sufficiently coordinated and mature before package release, procurement, manufacture and construction.
- Support final testing, certification, training, handover and operational-readiness activities for clinical systems

Iβm in my final year doing Economics and I donβt know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer β it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donβt need a masters. Letβs look at the ones youβd be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet β that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
