Job Summary
This is an opportunity to take on a defining clinical leadership role within Taurus Healthcare, helping to shape the future of innovative, high-quality care across Herefordshire.
As a member of the Executive Team, you will provide strategic leadership for clinical services, quality, patient safety and professional standards, ensuring our services remain safe, effective and focused on the needs of patients and communities.
Working closely with the Board, clinical leaders, practices and partners across the health and care system, you will influence the development of new models of care, strengthen clinical governance, support workforce development and help deliver our ambition of providing accessible, compassionate care closer to home.
This role offers a unique opportunity to combine strategic influence with meaningful impact, helping to shape services that improve outcomes for local people while supporting the sustainability and resilience of primary care.

Main duties of the job
As Medical Director, you will provide visible clinical leadership across the organisation, ensuring high standards of quality, patient safety and professional practice.
You will work closely with colleagues and partners to shape strategy, support service improvement and drive the development of innovative models of care that meet the needs of the population we serve.
You will play a key role in strengthening clinical governance, supporting organisational learning, developing the future clinical workforce and fostering a culture where colleagues feel empowered to speak up, learn and continuously improve.
The postholder will also work collaboratively with general practice, system partners and multidisciplinary teams to ensure services are clinically effective, sustainable and responsive to changing healthcare needs.

Main Responsibilities Include:
- Providing executive leadership for clinical services, clinical quality, patient safety and professional standards across Taurus Healthcare.
- Acting as the senior clinical adviser to the Board, contributing to organisational strategy, performance, risk management and workforce planning.
- Holding executive responsibility for the safe, effective and high-quality delivery of clinical services.
- Leading and strengthening clinical governance, quality assurance, audit, risk management and organisational learning.
- Driving clinical input into service redesign, pathway development, new models of care and digital transformation.
- Providing professional leadership for medical staff and advanced clinical practitioners, including appraisal, revalidation, workforce development and succession planning.
- Building strong relationships with practices, commissioners and system partners to support integrated, patient-centred services across Herefordshire.
- Supporting a culture of learning, improvement, innovation and collaboration that enables colleagues to deliver their best work.

- Clinical Services & Performance: Providing strategic oversight of clinical service delivery, performance improvement and service transformation.
- Quality, Safety & Clinical Governance: Ensuring robust governance arrangements, regulatory compliance, clinical effectiveness and organisational learning.
- Medical Leadership & Workforce Development: Leading medical and advanced clinical practitioners through professional development, appraisal, revalidation and workforce planning.
- System Partnerships & Service Innovation: Working collaboratively with practices and partners to develop sustainable services and improve outcomes for local communities.
- Regulatory Assurance & Professional Standards: Providing oversight of statutory and professional responsibilities, including Registered Manager, Responsible Officer and Caldicott Guardian functions.

Person Specification
Skills and Knowledge
Essential:
- Strong understanding of general practice, including current challenges, opportunities and emerging trends.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- High levels of professionalism, integrity and ethical leadership.
- Ability to engage, motivate and enable others to perform at their best.
- Strong financial awareness and commercial acumen
Experience
Essential:
- Substantial experience of working across primary care and community health services.
- Proven experience of leading, inspiring and empowering diverse multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven track record of delivering results through others.
- Experience of managing budgets and optimising income streams.
- Experience influencing and working across organisational boundaries within an integrated health and care system.
- Experience building effective partnerships with external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Medically qualified and currently registered with the GMC
Desirable:
- Experience as a GP
