Medical Director & Person Responsible (PR) – Fertility Services

Location: Northern Ireland (Confidential)
Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer
Salary: £200k, plus annual bonus, private healthcare and share options/retention bonus

An established and growing fertility organisation is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Medical Director & Person Responsible (PR) to provide clinical leadership and ensure full regulatory compliance across its licensed services. This is a senior leadership role combining strategic oversight, clinical governance, and statutory responsibility within a regulated fertility setting.

The Role

You will lead all clinical aspects of the service, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and ethical practice. As the appointed Person Responsible (PR), you will hold accountability for compliance with all relevant legislation governing fertility services, including licensed activities involving gametes and embryos.

Working closely with senior leadership and multidisciplinary teams, you will drive continuous improvement, oversee clinical governance frameworks, and ensure the organisation remains inspection-ready at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Governance

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across fertility services
  • Ensure delivery of safe, ethical, and evidence-based patient care
  • Lead clinical governance, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Oversee development and implementation of clinical policies and protocols

Regulatory & Compliance (PR Responsibilities)

  • Act as the statutory Person Responsible for licensed activities
  • Ensure full compliance with UK fertility legislation, licence conditions, and regulatory standards
  • Serve as the primary contact for inspections, audits, and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain robust systems for traceability, record-keeping, and reporting
  • Oversee incident reporting, corrective actions, and continuous compliance

Quality & Patient Safety

  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive Quality Management System
  • Promote a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous learning
  • Ensure adherence to consent, donor selection, and ethical frameworks
  • Oversee patient-centred care, including counselling and complex case review

People & Performance

  • Lead and support multidisciplinary clinical teams
  • Ensure staff competency, training, and ongoing professional development
  • Maintain high standards of clinical performance and accountability

Strategic Development

  • Contribute to service development, innovation, and clinical strategy
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies aligned with safety and regulatory requirements

About You

  • Fully registered and licensed medical practitioner with specialist registration
  • Eligible to act as Person Responsible under UK fertility legislation
  • Demonstrated experience within a licensed fertility or tissue establishment
  • Strong track record in clinical governance, regulatory compliance, and quality management
  • In-depth knowledge of fertility regulations, including consent, traceability, and donor frameworks
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills
