About the Role
The Medical Director UK will be the senior physician and Medical Affairs leader for Pharmanovia in the UK, with additional responsibility for providing selective senior medical support across Nordic markets as portfolio and organisational needs evolve. Reporting directly to the Global Head of Medical Affairs, the Medical Director will translate global Medical Affairs strategy into locally relevant plans and hands-on execution, while ensuring that medical insights, scientific evidence and external stakeholder engagement directly influence business strategy, product launches, market access and patient pathways.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior Medical Affairs leadership for Pharmanovia's UK oncology portfolio, acting as the primary medical and scientific leader for the UK.
- Develop and execute prioritised Medical Affairs strategies and plans across the UK, ensuring alignment with global strategy and the specific requirements of the UK healthcare environment.
- Own UK medical readiness for upcoming oncology launches, from pre-launch through launch and post-launch optimisation, ensuring appropriate scientific, field and stakeholder preparation.
- Lead and develop the UK Medical Affairs and MSL team, providing clear direction, coaching, support and performance leadership while ensuring high standards of scientific and medical execution.
- Act as the independent medical voice within the UK & Nordics leadership team, providing objective scientific advice and ensuring medical considerations are appropriately represented in strategic and commercial decision-making.
- Build and maintain high-quality, trusted relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, clinicians, investigators, scientific societies and other senior external stakeholders across the UK.
- Provide selective senior medical leadership and support to Nordic markets in line with agreed portfolio priorities and organisational requirements.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive KOL and stakeholder engagement strategies to support the successful development, launch and lifecycle management of oncology products.
- Lead and oversee medical launch planning, including KOL mapping, evidence generation, advisory boards, medical education, congress strategy and field medical readiness.
- Generate and communicate actionable medical insights from external stakeholders and the healthcare environment to inform global strategy, clinical development, evidence generation, launch planning and commercial decision-making.
- Support the development and execution of evidence-generation strategies, including Real-World Evidence (RWE), investigator-initiated research and Clinical Development activities.
- Work closely with Clinical Development and Global Medical Affairs colleagues to identify and address evidence gaps and opportunities within the oncology portfolio.
- Partner closely with Market Access and HEOR colleagues to support NICE, NHS and wider UK Health Technology Assessment and access activities.
- Provide medical input into UK access strategies and support relevant access priorities across Nordic markets where required.
- Develop strong relationships with healthcare professionals and the broader scientific community to enhance Pharmanovia's scientific credibility and deepen understanding of evolving treatment pathways.
- Represent Pharmanovia at relevant national and international medical congresses, scientific meetings, advisory boards and other external forums.
- Provide medical leadership and input into the development of scientific materials, medical education initiatives and external engagement programmes.
- Ensure Medical Affairs activities are aligned with applicable pharmaceutical legislation, industry codes, company policies and medical governance requirements.
- Support and, where appropriately qualified and authorised, undertake UK medical signatory responsibilities.
- Provide medical review and oversight of relevant promotional, non-promotional and scientific materials in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Work collaboratively with Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Market Access, HEOR, Commercial, Clinical Development and other cross-functional teams.
- Ensure medical insights and scientific considerations are appropriately incorporated into cross-functional brand, launch and portfolio strategies.
- Identify emerging scientific, clinical, regulatory and healthcare trends that may impact Pharmanovia's oncology portfolio.
- Monitor developments within oncology treatment pathways, clinical practice, healthcare policy and the UK healthcare environment and translate relevant changes into actionable recommendations.
- Personally deliver priority Medical Affairs activities where required, maintaining a strong connection with external stakeholders and the scientific community.
- Personally resolve critical scientific, launch, stakeholder or operational issues, demonstrating ownership and sound medical judgement.
- Support due diligence, alliance management and portfolio evaluation activities by providing medical and scientific expertise where required.

Qualifications
- Completed medical qualification (MD, MBBS or equivalent), with a current or previous licence to practise medicine.
- Typically 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology Medical Affairs experience, including significant senior country, regional or equivalent responsibilities.
- Strong and demonstrable oncology expertise, with direct experience supporting pre-launch, launch and post-launch Medical Affairs activities.
- Proven experience leading Medical Affairs functions, MSLs or country-level medical teams within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Strong experience within the UK healthcare environment, including a detailed understanding of NICE, NHS structures and devolved-nation Health Technology Assessment and access processes.
- Demonstrable experience developing and implementing Medical Affairs strategies and plans that support business, clinical and patient objectives.
- Proven experience preparing and delivering medical readiness strategies for pharmaceutical product launches.
- Strong understanding of the oncology treatment landscape, clinical pathways, evolving standards of care and unmet patient needs.
