Key Responsibilities
To maintain the operations of the RMDS laboratory in supporting Genetic Technologists, Operational Managers, and Clinical Scientists by performing pre-analytical preparation, equipment maintenance, and post-analytical duties.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Received, sorted, and recorded sample information, including transport conditions, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Used laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for sample registration, examination, and post-examination processes.
- Performed routine and non-routine preparation and examination of laboratory samples following SOPs and validated methods.
- Extracted and quantified DNA from a range of patient samples, including blood, amniotic fluid, tissue, saliva, and FFPE specimens.
- Conducted slide preparation, G-banding, tissue culture, and sample processing for cytogenetic analysis.
- Collaborated with Operational Managers, Senior Genetic Technologists, and Clinical Scientists to manage daily laboratory workload.
- Prepared and coordinated referral requests for specialized testing at external laboratories.
- Maintained laboratory equipment and analyzers in line with laboratory procedures and manufacturers' recommendations to ensure optimal performance.
- Assisted in the preparation and processing of samples for Internal Quality Control (IQC), Uncertainty of Measurement (UOM), and External Quality Assurance (EQAS) schemes.
- Presented analytical results and laboratory data to the appropriate Clinical Scientists for verification and authorization upon completion of testing.

Essential Criteria
- HNC/HND or Diploma in Science (or equivalent).
- OR BTEC National Diploma in an Applied Science or NVQ Level 3 in a science-related subject PLUS 1 year's laboratory experience.
- OR At least 3 years relevant laboratory experience.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
- Understanding of genomics testing.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management System.
- Attention to detail.
- Time management with the ability to prioritize.
