About the Role

We’re looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Biochemistry team at HCA Laboratories, based at Shropshire House in London. With more than 35 years of experience delivering high-quality pathology services, our laboratories support acute care across HCA Healthcare UK hospitals as well as IVF clinics, screening services, and GP referrals. You’ll be working in an environment equipped with advanced analytical systems, within a team that plays a vital role in supporting accurate and timely patient diagnosis.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant in Biochemistry, you’ll support the smooth running of a busy referrals and sample processing service. This role offers a varied and hands-on experience where you’ll work closely with Biomedical Scientists, contribute to essential analytical processes, and help maintain the highest standards across the laboratory. From sample receipt through to preparation and analyser loading, your work will directly support clinical decision making and patient care. You’ll be trusted to work independently while also being part of a supportive and collaborative team.

At HCA UK we care about what you care about. We care that you want to deliver the very best care. We care that you want a career you can be proud of. We care that you want working conditions that support your health and wellbeing. Let us care for you and your career, the same way you do for others.

  • Manage and support the day-to-day workflow within the Biochemistry referrals section
  • Receive, check, and process a range of biological samples for analysis and referral
  • Prepare and aliquot samples while ensuring quality and accuracy at all stages
  • Support analyser operation, maintenance routines, and stock control processes
  • Respond to enquiries and temperature monitoring alerts, escalating where needed

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
