The Opportunity

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will be a vital link in the diagnostic chain, joining a high-calibre team dedicated to patient-centred excellence. You aren’t just handling samples; you are safeguarding the integrity of the data that clinicians rely on to make critical treatment decisions.

In this role, your primary focus is driving high-quality testing standards for every patient who relies on Voy in their health decisions. You will become an expert in the pre-analytical phase, ensuring that every blood sample meets strict quality criteria before it ever reaches an analyser. As you grow, you’ll have the opportunity to progress toward operating cutting-edge laboratory equipment, transitioning from sample preparation to the high-tech heart of the laboratory.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the pre-analytical phase by validating specimen labelling, viability, and overall sample integrity
  • Input and coordinate the high-volume intake of samples to ensure a steady "pull" through to the analytical team
  • Execute daily maintenance and operational checks on pre-analytical equipment to prevent downtime, keeping accurate logs and records
  • Enable the procurement, stock rotation, and stewardship of sensitive reagents and laboratory consumables
  • Input and verify patient data within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) with zero margin for error
  • Oversee the safe disposal of clinical waste and maintain strict adherence to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) standards
  • Identify and resolve pre-analytical discrepancies (e.g., haemolysis, insufficient volume) through direct communication with senior laboratory staff
  • Participate actively in internal audits and "Lean Lab" initiatives to continuously refine standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
