Medical Laboratory Assistant – Histology

London, HCA Laboratories – Shropshire House
Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Shift patterns between 7.30am and 8.30pm, Monday to Friday, including weekends
Permanent
Competitive salary, dependent on experience


We’re looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Histology team at HCA Laboratories – Shropshire House. With more than 35 years of experience delivering high quality pathology services, HCA Laboratories supports acute care across our HCA hospitals, alongside IVF clinics, healthcare screening services, GP services and insurance providers. Our laboratories cover the full range of pathology disciplines and are equipped with advanced analytical technology, enabling us to deliver safe, accurate and timely diagnostic services.

Joining our Histology team means becoming part of a service that plays a vital role in patient diagnosis and treatment, while benefiting from a collaborative environment where your contribution is recognised and your development is supported.


What you’ll do:

  • Support the safe and efficient day to day running of the Histology service, following departmental policies, standard operating procedures and quality systems
  • Receive and register histology samples accurately, ensuring patient information is entered correctly into laboratory systems
  • Work closely with pathologists, biomedical scientists and wider laboratory colleagues to support the smooth running of the histology pathway
  • Carry out routine equipment checks and basic maintenance, while maintaining a clean, organised and compliant laboratory environment
  • Contribute to quality management and accreditation requirements, including ISO 15189 standards

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience working within a laboratory environment, ideally within Histology
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work accurately and maintain high standards under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Good IT skills and confidence using laboratory information management systems
  • A flexible approach to working patterns, including shifts and weekend working
