The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Medical Lead (Scientific Director) to join our Envision Medical Communications team.

In this role, you will lead scientific strategy and delivery across a range of medical communications projects, working closely with Account Management and multidisciplinary teams to develop high-quality scientific content that supports our clients' strategic objectives. You will bring your scientific expertise and understanding of the market and product positioning to support complex projects, while also contributing to client discussions, reviewing scientific content, and providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues.

This is an oncology focused account and offers variety across scientific strategy, content development, congress and event programmes, large-scale scientific deliverables, and wider medical communications activities.

Role Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with an Account Management counterpart, provide overarching scientific, strategic, and tactical leadership for the assigned account.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders and engage in discussions of science and strategy with clients and external experts.
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of assigned therapeutic areas, client and competitor products, and industry regulations.
  • Create high-quality, scientifically accurate, and compliant content to meet client briefs across a variety of project types.
  • Contribute to scientific strategy development and recommend communication approaches to best support the client's objectives.
  • Critically review the team's work and provide constructive feedback to ensure scientific accuracy, quality, and strategic alignment.
  • Mentor and support less experienced and junior writers, sharing scientific expertise and providing guidance on their work.
  • Participate in and drive client meetings and onsite programmes, developing materials and delivering presentations as needed.
  • Manage and negotiate team resource for assigned accounts and participate in recruitment activities, as needed.
  • Drive the implementation of, and ensure adherence to, processes that align with internal and client SOPs and policies.
  • Manage and prioritize own and team workload, delivering to agreed timelines and budget to meet client and business needs.
  • Partner with Account Management to provide input for project specifications and budget generation, drive project status tracking, and out-of-scope reporting.
  • Drive the development of scientific content for new business proposals and participate in pitch presentations.

Skills & Expertise

  • An advanced degree (or equivalent relevant experience) in a life sciences or clinical discipline.
  • Significant experience within a medical communications agency, with experience working on a global scale essential.
  • Strong experience across medical communications deliverables essential; experience in publications is desirable.
  • Oncology experience highly desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, with the ability to flex and adapt to changing priorities as required.
  • Ability to think strategically, solve challenges, and effectively utilize available resources.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to review work, provide constructive feedback, and mentor less experienced writers.
