Job Description Summary
The Medical Manager of a cluster drives the scientific leadership for one or more assigned therapeutic areas by translating global, international, and local medical directions into impactful country execution. The role provides expert medical guidance, shapes scientific exchange, strengthens external engagement, and ensures high scientific rigor in all medical initiatives. Its partners functionally deliver medical education, insight generation, evidence contributions, and compliant scientific dialogue, supporting lifecycle management and patient-centric outcomes. The Medical Manager acts as a key scientific ambassador and connector between internal teams and external medical communities. External medical activities include scientific engagement with healthcare professionals, medical experts, scientific societies, and partners; gathering insights from real-world clinical practice; as well as participation in congresses and projects, while ensuring full compliance with applicable legislation, compliance requirements, pharmacovigilance obligations, and the Company’s internal procedures. The role is designed as a hybrid field/office position, with field presence recognized as a strategically important component and a key focus of the role.

Major Accountabilities
Medical Education & Scientific Communication
- Design and execute medical education initiatives, including webinars, scientific sessions, and TA-specific learning programs.
- Organize pre-, during-, and post-congress activities in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Produce, adapt, and ensure quality of scientific materials (publications, slide decks, external presentations).
- Ensure all content and all scientific, clinical, and educational activities adhere to ERC, local laws, medical governance, and internal compliance standards.
Scientific Engagement
- In line with global guidance leads high-level scientific engagement with senior MEs, peer-to-peer scientific exchange with Medical Experts and HCP networks, fostering credible, unbiased scientific dialogue.
- Build and sustain strong scientific relationships with rising stars, KOLs, and expert communities.
- Executes Medical TA-defined scientific communication priorities and external scientific engagement activities at cluster level, including advisory interactions, expert meetings, and scientific discussions.
- Ensure compliant, evidence-based interactions consistently aligned with Novartis governance.
- Ensure external medical activities across the cluster are conducted in alignment with Novartis TA plan, in collaboration with country-level MSL/Medical Manager FTEs.

Insight Generation & Evidence Contribution
- Gather actionable external insights from HCPs, MEs, congresses, real-world practice, and scientific interactions.
- Synthesize insights to influence TA direction, identify evidence gaps, and shape medical priorities.
- Support publication activities by providing medical and scientific input, as applicable and in line with publication governance and compliance requirements.
- Provide medical input to market access readiness in collaboration with V&A.
Medical Community & Partnerships Building
- Develop and maintain scientific partnerships with medical societies, academic institutions, and external scientific collaborators across the cluster.
- Represent Novartis as a credible scientific voice at congresses, scientific events, and expert forums.
- Support external scientific collaboration initiatives across the cluster, as applicable, in line with internal governance and compliance requirements.
- Operate fully in line with HQ guidance, Novartis policies, ethical standards, and local regulatory requirements, adhere to applicable legislation, SOPs, adverse event reporting requirements, and other relevant compliance obligations.
- Fulfill any other instructions of the Company's management.
Key Performance Indicators
- Quality, depth & credibility of peer-to-peer scientific engagement.
- Timely and compliant delivery of approved medical education and congress activities.
- Quality, relevance, scientific accuracy, and compliance of medical materials and scientific communication.
- Timeliness, quality, documentation, and actionability of external medical/scientific insights into TA planning.
- Strength and quality of partnerships with MEs and scientific societies.
- Compliance with medical governance and ERC pharmacovigilance, local legislation, internal procedures, and audit-readiness requirements.
- Effectiveness of cross-functional and cross-country collaboration.

Background
Education
- MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent advanced scientific degree
Languages
- English
- Country language desirable
Experience/Professional Requirement
Experiences
- Experience in Medical Affairs, customer-facing scientific roles, cross-functional collaboration, external engagement, scientific communication.
- 2–3+ years in medical roles preferred.
Functional Capabilities
- Strong scientific expertise and ability to interpret and communicate clinical and scientific data.
- Ability to generate, analyze, and translate medical/scientific insights into medical planning.
- Ability to develop, review, and adapt scientific communication, medical education materials, and medical content in line with internal governance and compliance requirements.
- Experience in cross-functional and matrix collaboration across medical/commercial, access, regulatory, and other relevant functions.
- Solid understanding of compliance, regulatory requirements, pharmacovigilance obligations, and medical governance processes.
- Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with internal and external scientific stakeholders.
- High integrity, ethical judgment, and patient-centric mindset.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences.
