Medical Officer

Portsmouth/hybrid (hybrid will only be available once you are fully competent in the role and confidently settled into this position.) Hours: 8 hour shifts between 8am and 8pm with rostered weekends; minimum of 2-3 shifts per week

Charles Taylor Assistance is looking for an experienced doctor to join our international medical assistance team, providing expert clinical advice across complex, high-priority and time-critical cases.

The role

As a Medical Officer, you'll work alongside our team of experienced medical, nursing, and operational professionals, sharing your expertise, supporting colleagues, and helping to ensure great patient outcomes.

Every case brings a different challenge. You'll use your clinical judgement and expertise to:

  • Provide expert medical advice, guidance and clinical opinion across assistance, claims, personal accident, and complex medical cases
  • Liaise with patients, treating doctors and relatives where required
  • Work closely with our travel and operational teams determining fitness to fly, medical clearance and commercial repatriation requirements
  • Manage time critical medical evacuations and air ambulance repatriations
  • Support medical escorts with clinical advice before and during patient repatriation
  • Contribute to study days, medical teaching and training, helping develop both clinical and non-clinical colleagues
  • Participate in weekend and Bank Holiday cover on a rota, supporting our 24/7/365 service - with no night work required

What makes you the right fit?

We're looking for a doctor who combines excellent clinical knowledge with sound judgement, compassion and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Essential skills required:

  • A&E, Critical Care, Maritime or ICU experience with broad and relevant medical experience
  • Primary medical degree with a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience
  • Current UK GMC registration with an unrestricted licence to practice
  • Clinically confident, with broad medical experience and strong decision-making skills
  • Calm under pressure, able to assess complex situations and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • An excellent communicator, comfortable working with patients, families, medical professionals, insurers, and clients
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, with a strong understanding of clinical and business risk
  • Collaborative and energetic, with a genuine commitment to supporting colleagues and delivering the best possible patient outcomes
  • Quality-focused, with high standards of professionalism and patient care
  • Fully compliant with professional registration, appraisal, and revalidation requirements

What you'll bring

  • Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Unrestricted right to work in the UK
  • Experience in travel medicine or international healthcare would be advantageous
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Fluency in English; additional languages would be an advantage
