The Role
The Medical Policy Associate is part of the wider Safety Operations Policy Team and supports the Medical Policy Lead in the following key areas:
- The development and management of policy and guidance material for aeromedical certification;
- The communication and provision of medical policy and advice to internal and external stakeholders;
- The delivery of the medical regulatory safety management system.
These activities contribute to a proportionate, evidence-based regulatory framework and support the effective management of aeromedical safety risks across all sectors of aviation, from recreational flying to commercial air transport. Working under the guidance of the Medical Policy Lead, the Associate will work alongside medical professionals and colleagues from a range of disciplines, both within and outside the organisation.

Core Accountabilities
- Support the planning, coordination, and allocation of medical policy development activities.
- Arrange and facilitate working groups for the purpose of policy development.
- Contribute to policy and rulemaking projects, including preparing mandates, briefing papers, and other supporting materials.
- Maintain and manage accurate records of policy, guidance material and other documents.
- Assist in the development and presentation of the medical content on the CAA website.
- Help communicate medical policy and guidance to internal and external stakeholders, including responding to queries and providing timely support.
- Support medical safety assurance meetings and the broader management of aeromedical risks and actions through safety panels and committees.
- Demonstrate CAA values in all aspects of the role: do the right thing, respect everyone, never stop learning, build collaborative relationships.
- Work in accordance with CAA policies, procedures and management systems.

About You
Essential
- Experience or demonstrated interest in aviation.
- A background in a biomedical, healthcare or related scientific discipline.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to assimilate and apply technical, sometimes complex, information.
- A methodical and proactive approach to work with attention to detail and quality.
- Effective organisation and time management skills, and the ability to manage priorities.
- Practical experience of working collaboratively with others to achieve objectives.
- Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point) and a willingness to learn new software and systems.
Desirable
- Experience of supporting or contributing to evidence-based policy making.
- Experience of safety regulation and safety management systems.
Please note: Occasional attendance at UK scientific and other professional meetings, aeromedical examiner premises or aeromedical centres.
Additional Information
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
To be vetted you must have the right to work in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.

Relocation & Property
The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years’ time. Our move is driven by strategic, operational and environmental considerations.
We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers.
We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office, before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land, vacate the site and move to new premises, but we do not expect to move before 2028
