Ophthalmology Fellowship
An Ophthalmology fellowship is available from February 2027 for 12 months at John Radcliffe Hospital. This fellowship is for candidates interested in medical retina.
About the Fellowship
- The appointment is full-time; however, applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.
- Suitable for doctors who have completed their training or have completed a significant part of their training but seek experience in medical retina prior to obtaining a consultant appointment.
- Not a post that is approved for training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Eligibility
- Candidates are welcome to visit the department.
- Invited to contact Mr Jonathan Norris, Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology and Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Oxford Eye Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, The John Radcliffe.
- Any person who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post.
- Suitably qualified job-share candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities
- Opportunity to work within a dynamic team of medical retina specialists with subspecialist interests ranging from uveitis, paediatric uveitis, vascular medical retina, AMD, ocular genetics, specialist retina, ocular oncology, and von Hippel Lindau.
- Participation in a multidisciplinary service for the regional Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis service.
- Encouragement of participation in rheumatology, sarcoidosis, vasculitis, and multiple sclerosis clinics to deepen knowledge of the conditions giving rise to uveitis.

Research and Teaching
- Active research portfolio; participation in research through the writing up of clinical studies and case reports is encouraged.
- Fellows have the opportunity to access cataract surgery but only during weekend lists.
- Opportunity to be involved in trainee and medical student teaching on a formal and informal basis.
