Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL)

A Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) is a clinical professional who specialises in translating scientific and medical information into advantages for users and prescribers and benefits for patients as well as building and maintaining relationships between groups of people, such as physicians, industry personnel and patient organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Territory: North of England

  • Maintains on behalf of the company goal-oriented contacts with customers (medical professionals), key opinion leaders, professional colleagues internally.

  • Deliver credible presentations on scientific matters to physicians. Individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions), where requested.

  • Ensures access to current medical and scientific information on the products and areas of therapeutic interest.

  • Participate in the selection process to identify appropriately qualified physicians whom ALK would wish to engage in collaborative efforts such as research or lecture/meeting support (Round Tables, Congresses, Symposia); and ensures a high level of scientific or educational integrity.

  • Develop awareness and understanding of competitor issues/intelligence- for example, product strategies, studies, commercial messages, positioning and communicate where appropriate within ALK.

  • Support sales and marketing/internal team areas to develop their scientific and technical expertise through the delivery of scientific update presentations. Provide internal scientific trainings on new products.

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of literature and data in therapeutic area and sharing it with peers, KOLs and HCP.

  • Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Engagement: Develop and manage KOLs including KOL identification, engagement and support. Maximize site performance and support for clinical trials and non-interventional studies through engagement with investigators as appropriate.

  • Data dissemination: Contribute to building high value-added medical programs such as HCP training program, Continuous Medical Educational Programs and Symposia and development of scientific publications related to the therapeutic area/brand.

  • Defined proactive therapy area projects, scientific and medicines updates, reactive updates and education in-line with area needs.

  • Ensure that all in-field medical activities and interactions are conducted with due regard to all applicable local, global and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of practice, company policy and best practice.

  • Ensures optimal medical input for strategic developments and alignment Medical Affairs and Commercial Organization.

Competencies Required:

  • Education: Educational background in life sciences (biomedical, pharmacology, and pharmacy). Relevant education and broad experience within allergy therapeutic area including thorough theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Previous experience as an MSL.
  • Experience within pharmaceutical industry, experience with compliance and regulatory approvals is preferable but not limiting.
  • Experience of launching new products is preferable but not limiting.
  • Experience of gathering real world evidence and converting into value proposition for customer is preferable but not limiting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to leverage technology to drive clinical change.
  • Highly aware of own emotional intelligence with the ability to be versatile dependant on circumstance.
  • Evidence showing ability to collaborate across multi-functional teams.
  • Issues management skills.
  • Fluency in spoken as well as written English.
