How You'll Help Us Make Health Happen

As a Medical Secretary, you'll be responsible for ensuring all reception and administrative activities are carried out efficiently and effectively while maintaining the highest standards of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience at every stage of the patient journey.
  • Welcome patients, visitors and consultants in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Manage appointment bookings, amendments, cancellations and patient registrations.
  • Handle incoming telephone calls, emails and enquiries efficiently and professionally.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Process payments, invoices and insurance information accurately.
  • Generate appointment letters and other patient correspondence.
  • Support the management of clinical results, scanning and administrative follow-up activities.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing post and deliveries.
  • Ensure reception and waiting areas remain clean, organised and welcoming.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels within the department.
  • Support audits, reporting requirements and operational processes.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative colleagues to deliver an excellent patient experience.

Key Skills / Qualifications

Essential

  • Previous experience in a Medical Secretary role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively in a busy environment.
  • Professional and customer-focused approach.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications).

Desirable

  • Previous experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Audio typing experience.
  • Experience using healthcare systems such as Meddbase or Compucare.
