Are you passionate about creating exceptional events and delivering outstanding guest experiences? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? Ready to take the lead in a brand-new, refurbished meetings and events operation?

Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport NEC is creating a new Meeting & Events Operations Supervisor role to support the launch and day-to-day operation of our newly refurbished meeting and conference spaces. With 14 meeting rooms and a wide range of events taking place across the hotel, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced hospitality professional who enjoys being hands-on, leading from the front and making sure every detail is right.

Our largest event space can accommodate up to 600 delegates in theatre style or 450 guests for a dinner, giving you the opportunity to be involved in events of real scale and variety. From welcoming corporate delegates and ensuring meeting rooms are perfectly prepared, to coordinating weddings, charity events, boxing events and Christmas parties, you’ll be at the heart of the action. We are looking for someone who can join us promptly.

About the Role

As our Meeting & Events Operations Supervisor, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operation of our meetings and events, working closely with the Operations Manager and wider hotel team to ensure every event runs seamlessly. You’ll be the go-to person for our guests & delegates throughout the day, making sure every request is taken care of. One moment you could be welcoming a conference organiser and checking AV requirements; the next, refreshing a meeting room, setting up a coffee break, coordinating a working lunch or preparing a room for an evening event. This is a genuinely hands-on role where you’ll lead by example, be visible across the operation and take pride in delivering an exceptional experience from the moment a guest arrives until the final event finishes.

Your Impact

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of our meeting and event floor, ensuring everything is ready, presented and operating to a high standard.
  • Complete daily checks of conference and meeting spaces, ensuring rooms are clean, fully prepared and set up correctly.
  • Welcome and meet event organisers & delegates, becoming their key point of contact throughout their event.
  • Ensure all AV and technical requirements are in place, working with the relevant teams or suppliers to resolve any issues quickly.
  • Set up and refresh meeting rooms throughout the day, including water, stationery, refreshments and equipment.
  • Coordinate and deliver conference breaks, working lunches and other food and beverage requirements.
  • Turn rooms around efficiently between meetings and events, ensuring they are ready for the next day.
  • Lead and supervise the team, allocating tasks and ensuring everyone understands what is required.
  • Brief the team before events and communicate any specific client requirements, timings or changes.
  • Coordinate the set-up and delivery of a wide variety of events.
  • Manage the delivery of evening events, including room set-up, food and beverage service and coordination of dinners and functions.
  • Work closely with Kitchen, Food & Beverage, Reception, Housekeeping and other hotel departments to ensure a seamless operation.
  • Be proactive in identifying issues before they affect the client or guest experience.
  • Handle guest and client queries confidently, resolving problems quickly and professionally.
  • Ensure all meeting rooms and event areas remain clean, safe and presentation-ready throughout the day.
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure meeting and event areas have everything required.
  • Complete relevant checklists, handovers, event paperwork and incident reports.
  • Manage the planning and delivery of upcoming events and conferences throughout each week.
  • Ensure all events are delivered in line with company procedures and Health & Safety, food safety, fire safety and licensing requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
