About the Role
Help us build stronger relationships with our members, keep them connected to our work and make sure they hear about opportunities to get involved and have their voices heard.
What Difference Will You Make?
Our members are at the heart of Leeds Involving People. They bring lived experience, local knowledge and perspectives that help influence and improve health, social care and community services across Leeds.
As a small team delivering a wide range of projects, events and involvement opportunities, it can be challenging to maintain the regular, personal contact with members that we would like.
Your support will help us build stronger relationships with our members, reconnect with people who may have become less involved and make sure people hear about opportunities that are relevant to them.
By getting to know our members and understanding what matters to them, you’ll also help us make our communications and involvement opportunities more responsive to what people actually want.
Ultimately, your contribution will help ensure our membership is an active community rather than simply a contact list – with more people feeling connected, informed and able to use their experiences to help shape services across Leeds.
What Are We Looking For?
We’re looking for someone who is friendly, approachable and genuinely enjoys talking to people and building relationships.
Ideally, you’ll have at least three years’ professional experience in community engagement, communications, membership engagement, customer engagement or a similar role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This will be a hands-on role. We’d like you to get to know our membership, communicate with people regularly and help us understand what they are interested in, how they would like to be involved and how we can communicate with them better.
Working alongside our small team, you could
- Welcome new members and help them understand the different ways they can get involved with LIP
- Keep in regular contact with existing members by phone and email
- Reconnect with members we haven’t heard from for a while
- Talk to members about their interests and the issues that matter to them
- Let people know about relevant events, forums, consultations and other opportunities
- Encourage members to become more involved in LIP’s work
- Gather feedback about members’ experiences and how we could improve
- Help us develop a more consistent approach to member communications and engagement
- Identify ways to make the journey from joining LIP to becoming actively involved easier and more welcoming
We don’t want our membership to simply be a mailing list. We want people to feel that they are genuinely part of Leeds Involving People and have opportunities to contribute in ways that are meaningful to them.
This is an ongoing role with scope for the right volunteer to bring their own ideas and help shape how we engage with our members in the future.
