Working for: Surrey Care Association
Reports to: CEO
Location: Dorking, RH4 1XA
Working model: Hybrid with an office base when needed and regular travel across Surrey required
Salary banding: £40,000-£50,000 FTE
Working pattern: Part time, 15 hours per week
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays pro rata
Contract: Fixed term for 12 months, 15 hours per week
Role Purpose
The Membership Development Lead will focus exclusively on securing new Surrey Care Association members during a fixed-term period of 12 months, working two days per week. The post holder will identify and approach prospective member organizations, communicate the value of Surrey Care Association membership, and convert interest into completed memberships. Working closely with the CEO and team, the role is targeted, outward-facing, and focused on measurable membership growth.
Key Responsibilities
New Membership Acquisition
- Develop and deliver a focused plan to generate new Surrey Care Association memberships over the 12-month fixed-term period with a focus on (but not exclusively) residential and nursing care homes.
- Identify and prioritise prospective members across the care provider market.
- Proactively contact prospective members through calls, emails, meetings, events, and targeted outreach.
- Clearly communicate the value, benefits, and impact of Surrey Care Association membership to prospective organisations.
- Convert enquiries and prospects into completed new memberships, maintaining a clear pipeline of opportunities.

Prospecting, Outreach & Conversion
- Build and maintain a prospect list, using local knowledge, sector intelligence, referrals, events, and publicly available information.
- Follow up leads promptly and consistently, moving prospects through a simple membership pipeline.
- Arrange introductory conversations with prospective members and address questions about joining Surrey Care Association.
- Provide regular updates to the CEO on prospects, conversions, barriers, and opportunities for growth.
Membership Promotion
- Represent Surrey Care Association positively when speaking with prospective members and external stakeholders.
- Work with the CEO and Business and Customer Service Administrator to shape clear messages that support new member recruitment.
- Identify opportunities to promote membership through sector networks, partner contacts, events, and local care forums.
- Share insight from prospective members to help strengthen Surrey Care Association’s membership proposition.
Reporting & Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate records of prospective members, outreach activity, follow-ups, and outcomes.
- Track new membership enquiries, conversion rates, and recruitment progress against agreed targets.
- Produce concise monthly updates on new member recruitment activity and results.
- Use evidence from outreach activity to recommend practical improvements to the recruitment approach which can be sustained post the twelve-month period.

Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in membership recruitment, business development, sales, stakeholder engagement, or a similar outward-facing role.
- Confident in approaching new contacts, opening conversations, and converting interest into action.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain the value of membership.
- Highly organised and able to manage a simple prospect pipeline effectively within two days per week.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and a CRM database system to record activity and outcomes.
- Self-motivated, proactive, target-focused, and able to work independently.
- Ability to work flexibly and travel as required; a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable where travel is needed.
Desirable
- Experience in the social care sector or a not for profit/charitable membership-based organisation.
- Knowledge of care providers, sector networks, or local business forums.
- Experience of setting up or improving a prospecting and conversion process.
