The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is a charity, learned society, and professional membership body serving highways and transportation specialists across 12 UK regions and several international groups. CIHT supports members through e-learning, a bimonthly magazine, policy and technical updates, networking, and a wide range of in-person and online events. The Institution provides routes to professional recognition, including Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, Engineering Technician, the SoRSA Certificate of Competency, and Transport Planning Professional. As a leading voice for the highways and transportation infrastructure profession, CIHT advises national and local governments and other strategic stakeholders on technical matters, policy, and investment. CIHT offers a welcoming professional home for individuals working in transport infrastructure who seek education, qualifications, technical guidance, and a strong community.
Role Description
The Membership Executive is a full-time role responsible for supporting and growing CIHT’s membership base, with a hybrid working pattern based in the London Area, United Kingdom and some work from home. Day-to-day activities include managing member enquiries, providing high-quality customer service, and ensuring a positive membership experience across all touchpoints. The role involves delivering membership campaigns, supporting recruitment and retention initiatives, and maintaining accurate membership records and data. The Membership Executive will work closely with regional and international groups, help coordinate member communications, and contribute to events and activities that engage and support members. The role also includes monitoring membership performance, preparing reports, and collaborating with colleagues to improve processes and membership offerings.

- Demonstrated skills in membership development, including experience supporting recruitment, retention, and engagement activities.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to respond to enquiries promptly, professionally, and with a member-focused approach.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence in engaging with members, partners, and internal teams.
- Experience in account management and sales or outreach activities, such as managing member accounts, handling renewals, and promoting membership benefits.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, managing time and priorities across office-based and remote work.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including accuracy in data entry and experience using CRM or membership databases.
- Collaborative approach, with the ability to build relationships across regions, international groups, and stakeholders.
- Interest in or exposure to professional bodies, charities, or the highways and transportation sector is beneficial.
- Relevant education or training in business, communications, or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
