The Political Studies Association (PSA), founded in 1950, is the leading professional association for the study of politics in the United Kingdom. Its international membership includes academics, policy-makers, researchers, students, and others engaged with political science and current affairs. The PSA works to advance understanding of politics through research, teaching, and public engagement, and provides networking, resources, and events for its community. Membership is open to anyone interested in the study of politics, with further information available on the PSA website.
Role Description
The Membership & Programmes Officer is a part-time role responsible for supporting and developing PSA membership services and key association programmes. On a day-to-day basis, this role manages membership inquiries, processes applications and renewals, maintains accurate member records, and helps improve member experience.

The Officer coordinates events and programmes such as conferences, workshops, and member activities, including handling logistics, communications, and basic reporting. The role involves preparing membership communications and updates for digital channels, supporting committee or working group administration, and contributing to data monitoring to understand member needs.

This is a hybrid role, based in the United Kingdom, with a mix of office-based work and some work from home.
Qualifications
- Experience in membership services or customer support, including managing inquiries, maintaining databases or CRM systems, and handling routine administration.
- Skills in event or programme coordination, such as scheduling, logistics, stakeholder communication, and basic budget or attendance tracking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting clear member updates, emails, and web content with attention to detail.
- Good organizational and time-management abilities, with capacity to prioritize tasks, work accurately, and meet deadlines in a part-time hybrid role.
- Comfort with digital tools and platforms, including office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets), email marketing or mailing lists, and online event tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, committees, and external partners, while also being self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Interest in politics, public affairs, or social sciences; experience in a membership organization, higher education, or non-profit sector is an advantage.
- Relevant education or training (e.g., degree or equivalent experience in politics, social sciences, communications, or related field) is desirable but not mandatory.
