We’re looking for a Membership Recruiter to work at The British Museum on a temporary basis following a rolling rota of 4 days on and 2 days off from 26th August 2026 until the 31st December 2026.
The role
You’ll need to sell Memberships within the Museum and increase the revenue and provide excellent face-to-face customer service to Members and visitors in the front of house environment
Key responsibilities:
- Handling High-Volume Sales During Peak Exhibition
- Work as part of a team of Membership Recruiters to sell Membership to visitors, renewals and upselling of additional cards and guest facilities to existing Members
- Work at the reception area of the two Members’ Rooms during the Museum opening hours.
- Consistent delivery of excellent customer care to all Members (existing or new recruits)
- Support the administration and organisation of Members’ events
- Pack and distribute Membership materials (temporary cards, application forms, welcome packs) to the Membership desk, Members’ Room and Box Office
- Provide cover and act as visitor service support within the Members’ Room and the Membership Desk
- Where necessary accurately process new Membership applications, renewals, gift aids, payments (including direct debits), exhibition bookings, event ticket applications and donations to agreed procedures and service level standards
- Working with the Membership Sales Manager to ensure timely stock takes of all marketing and fulfilment materials on site to ensure adequate levels of all printed fulfilment materials and stationery are maintained
- Support the Membership Services Manager as necessary in other tasks and duties related to Membership activity
- Other duties within competence

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when inputting information
- Experience of excellent face-to-face customer service skills
- Experience of sales in heritage, tourism or retail
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely with visitors, team members and managers
- To be a flexible team player
- Enjoys working in a busy front of house environment
- Available to work on the weekend
- You must have a paper DBS certificate at the start of your assignment
