Choice Care Group is looking to appoint a Mental Health Lead Nurse to support the next stage of development for our mental health services.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to take a lead role in strengthening recovery-focused practice, safety, dynamic risk management and addictions-informed support across our mental health residential and supported living services.
This role will lead the development of a more specialist mental health support offer across Choice Care Group, recognising that mental health services require a different approach to learning disability services. The focus will be on recovery, relapse prevention, safety planning, forensic and dynamic risk, alcohol and drug recovery, psychosocial interventions, therapeutic engagement and supporting people to build stability, independence and quality of life.
The Mental Health Lead Nurse will provide clinical leadership, supervision and guidance to the Mental Health Practitioner role, as well as supporting Registered Managers and staff teams to understand and respond effectively to people’s mental health needs. The role will work closely with services where there are concerns about deterioration in mental health, relapse, escalating risk, substance misuse, self-neglect, disengagement or repeated crisis presentations.
The post will cover all mental health services across Choice Care Group and will require travel across the full geography of the organisation when required. A car allowance will be provided in recognition of the travel requirements of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing specialist mental health advice, guidance and clinical leadership to mental health services.
- Supporting services to embed recovery-focused, trauma-informed and least restrictive practice.
- Providing supervision, oversight and development support to the Mental Health Practitioner.
- Undertaking or contributing to mental health assessments, formulations and risk reviews where appropriate.
- Supporting services to identify and respond to dynamic risk, relapse indicators, deterioration in presentation and crisis concerns.
- Advising on recovery planning, WRAPs, safety planning, psychosocial interventions and addictions-informed support.
- Supporting services to work effectively with CMHTs, GPs, crisis teams, drug and alcohol services, safeguarding teams and other external professionals.
- Helping staff teams develop confidence in supporting people with complex mental health needs.
- Contributing to reflective practice, case discussion, MDT meetings and service reviews.
- Supporting services to evidence the impact of mental health support through outcomes including recovery progress, reduced restrictive practice, improved safety, sustained placements and improved service confidence.

About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Has experience working with adults with complex mental health needs, ideally within community, rehabilitation, forensic, crisis, supported living or residential settings.
- Has strong knowledge of recovery-focused practice, relapse prevention, risk assessment, crisis planning and mental health legislation.
- Understands the impact of trauma, substance misuse, self-neglect, social exclusion and complex risk on mental health and recovery.
- Can provide confident clinical guidance while working collaboratively with operational teams.
- Is skilled in partnership working with CMHTs, primary care, drug and alcohol services and other statutory partners.
- Can support staff teams through coaching, supervision, reflective practice and practical guidance.
- Is confident travelling across a wide geography and working flexibly in response to service need.
- Is values-led, person-centred and committed to supporting people to live meaningful, safe and fulfilling lives.
