Job Overview
This post is fixed term/secondment for 18 months until March 2028 due to funding.

The Gwent Parent Infant Mental Health Service are looking for a Mental Health Practitioner to work within the Early Years Service and primarily develop links with Primary Care Mental Health Support Service (PCMHSS) and Adult Mental Health. Working alongside Health Visiting, and other community settings, providing consultation, supervision, advice, training, support and information about parent-infant mental health, as well as providing the clinical governance to staff working with families with low level mental health, supporting escalation where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver an effective, comprehensive and highly specialised assessment and therapeutic service to vulnerable parents of infants up to the age of 2 and where appropriate to the parents and infants together. They will prove a range of liaison activities which promote and support parent-infant mental health and early intervention. The post holder will also be expected to provide support and consultation to staff working with children and families (up to age 7 years) as part of the Early Years service.

The postholder will hold a small clinical caseload supporting families.
The post holder will ensure the provision of evidence-based therapeutic intervention and support for parents with infants and children up to the age of 7, and provide expertise and specialist therapeutic advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to families’ treatment/support plans. Other professionals may seek post-holder’s opinion in areas of specialty.

Qualifications And Experience
Essential criteria
- Experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Knowledge of infant mental health, including knowledge of child development and attachment theory
- A range of clinical therapeutic skills appropriate to the task. Skilled in the use of assessment and interventions in this specialist area of work
Desirable criteria
- Experience working professionally with pregnant women, babies, toddlers
- Experience of teaching and training
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to contribute to reflective supervision within the team as in other settings
- Abilities required to perform effectively in the role, e.g. – Able to demonstrate situations where effective leadership and management skills have been used
Desirable criteria
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively about highly complex issues through reports
