Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur, a corporate professional, or a creative freelancer, your personal brand is the key to making yourself known to potential employers and collaborators. So, we have five tips to help you make one.

By Virginia Hogan

Figure Out What Makes You Unique

Maybe it’s nothing. If so, go out and become unique, and then come back and read this article. But if you are unique, ask yourself why. What sets you apart? Your unique value proposition is the root personal brand. Are you a tech titan, or a marketing maven, or a person who thinks alliteration is dumb? Pinpoint what makes you distinctive and build your brand around it.

Social-Mediate

Everyone hates social media, but that doesn’t mean it’s not useful. Social media is a powerful tool for brand-building. Choose platforms that align with your professional goals and audience. And if you can’t figure out which one to pick, choose all of them. That’s what I do. It’s exhaustion, but I get a lot of work.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Make good content

Create and share content that adds value to your audience. Whether it’s blog posts, videos, or podcasts, your content should reflect your expertise and interests. Just make a lot of it. And try to have a visual element—that’s huge these days, it seems.

And good contacts

Building a personal brand isn’t a solo journey. Network with professionals in your field, attend industry events, and don’t shy away from collaborations. Partnerships with other brands or influencers can provide mutual benefits and increase your visibility. Don’t ignore your audience, either—they’re sort of…the whole point.

Be Ready to Change

The only constant in the digital world is change. Always Be Adaptable (ABA, if you will). Whether it’s new social media algorithms, emerging platforms, or shifts in consumer behavior, being flexible and informed will keep your brand relevant. Regularly evaluate your strategy – what’s working and what’s not? This is really fun, because if something’s not working, you get to quit it, which is always a good time. I love quitting.
