About The Role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Manager MEPHFC to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London – join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.

HS2's new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK's best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide high-speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the delivery of assured MEPH design packages on behalf of BBVS sub-contractor Anthro, ensuring compliance with HS2 requirements, project-wide assurance processes, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Manage design change control and technical delivery by the BBVS lead designer (WSP) for all MEPH scope, coordinating inputs, reviewing outputs, and securing approvals in line with project governance.
  • Coordinate internal interfaces with construction delivery, procurement, planning, digital engineering/BIM, quality, and H&S to ensure buildability, sequence alignment, and efficient delivery.
  • Manage external interfaces with third-party stakeholders (e.g., utilities providers, local authorities, statutory undertakers, fire authorities, Network Rail/TfL where relevant, and other HS2 package interfaces) to secure consents, resolve clashes, and manage design dependencies.
  • Lead a team of 3 to 4 BBVS MEPH Design Managers, setting priorities, providing technical oversight, and fostering consistent design management practice and reporting.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
