I am currently working with a well-established main contractor who is looking to appoint an experienced M&E Manager for a major new build development. The project is a large mixed-use scheme comprising 400+ purpose-built student accommodation units alongside commercial space, with the project now live on site. This is a site-based position taking responsibility for the M&E delivery throughout the construction programme, working closely with the project team, consultants, and specialist subcontractors.

- Manage the mechanical and electrical packages on site from installation through to commissioning and handover
- Coordinate M&E subcontractors and ensure works are progressing in line with programme
- Review drawings, technical information, and specifications
- Manage interfaces between M&E, structural, and architectural packages
- Monitor installation quality and ensure works meet project requirements
- Attend subcontractor and project coordination meetings
- Manage testing, commissioning, snagging, and close-out
- Work closely with the Project Manager and wider construction team to identify and resolve technical issues

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Candidate
Ideally, you will have previous experience working as an M&E Manager, Building Services Manager, or Technical Services Manager with a main contractor or experience on larger projects with a large subcontractor. Experience delivering large residential, student accommodation, hotel, or similar high-density projects would be particularly relevant. You will need to be comfortable taking ownership of the M&E packages on site and driving subcontractors to programme.
