AI Technical Lead — Part-Time Contract

Location: London, with remote work and occasional in-person meetings
Commitment: Initial paid technical review, followed by approximately one day per week
Indicative rate: £500–£650 per day, depending on experience and agreed scope

TextBet is a UK-licensed bookmaker developing AI-powered messaging and automation for our betting service. We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on AI technical lead to work alongside our existing developers, provide technical direction and help improve delivery and reliability.

The engagement will begin with a review of the current codebase, architecture and chatbot workflows. You’ll identify what’s working, prioritise improvements and help the team establish a realistic delivery plan.

Ongoing support is expected to require approximately one day per week, with flexibility to spread that time across code reviews, technical discussions and troubleshooting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Reviewing tests and release readiness, and providing hands-on help with critical issues where needed.
  • Giving the founder clear, concise updates on progress, risks and next steps.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong commercial software engineering experience, particularly in backend development and API integrations.
  • Experience building and maintaining applications using Claude or comparable large language models.

  • A practical understanding of automated testing, monitoring and reliable production systems.
  • The ability to explain technical recommendations clearly to both developers and a non-technical founder.
  • Experience with messaging platforms, betting, payments or other systems where transaction accuracy matters would be valuable.
