Portsmouth Water are delighted to have an opening for a Meter Technician to join our growing Network department to take responsibility of the effective delivery of the surveys and installs of our metering programmes. In this role, you will ensure that all work is consistent to and compliant with Portsmouth Water operating procedures and that regulatory standards and requirements are followed.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake all network activities and operations in an appropriate and timely manner with due consideration, communication and safe execution
- Complete all operations in line with the relevant Portsmouth Water policies/procedures/RAMS
- Ensure that all field activities are undertaken with the required customer communications, and that all relevant information/data is subsequently returned/processed
- Complete all department risk and COSH assessments in line with Portsmouth Water expectations
- Deliver customer interactions in a consistent and appropriate manner and ensure that customer service excellence is maintained across all activities
- Ensure that all IFS work order processes are correctly executed/maintained and that accurate and appropriate details are collected for all RCW activities
- Assist the Network team to achieve collective goals and required outcomes
- Undertake surveys for ALL meter installations, replacements and exchanges, completing appropriate reporting documentation and following agreed survey processes and timescales
- Action a range of meter installation, replacement and exchange works, using appropriate and approved processes, methods and equipment
- Complete appropriate reporting documentation and follow agreed work category processes and timescales
- Any additional or ad-hoc duties within individual skillset but outside of metering activity that may be required, or as instructed by the management team

What do you need?
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
- Methodical & organised
- Ability to work under pressure, whilst managing varying and potentially conflicting priorities
- Excellent time management
- Confident & strong communicator at all levels
- Detailed knowledge of water industry systems and processes
- Ability to understand & assess numerical and statistical information
- Ability to network, establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal/external stakeholders
- Sound knowledge of PW obligations & reporting requirements
- Detailed understanding of all field activities and operations
The successful applicant will be required to have a full UK manual car driving licence (Class B), will have to undergo a driving assessment, consent to ongoing driving licence checks and additionally any other safety measures deemed necessary by Portsmouth Water Ltd in connection with driving.
If you are successful for the role, you will be required to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) pre-employment checks that will include a basic disclosure check. Depending on the role, you may also be required to go through the national security vetting process for either a CTC or SC clearance check. Any offer of employment is conditional upon completion and receipt of satisfactory checks.
