Metrology Engineer – Denham

As a Metrology Engineer within our Manufacturing team at Denham, you will join a high-performing department focused on automating inspection processes and programming advanced machinery. This is a brand-new role designed to introduce cutting-edge automation, reducing existing workloads while driving our facility's technical capabilities forward. From initial calibration to the final automated run, your expertise ensures our life-saving aerospace technologies are verified safely and compliantly.

The Opportunity
Working full-time alongside our technical specialist, you will act as a vital line of defence to ensure absolute measurement integrity across our manufacturing operations. This role offers deep day-to-day variety, substantial technical training investment, and an opportunity to shape work that has not previously been done. You will receive full 1-on-1 mentorship as well as external training to develop your skills in emerging digital metrology systems.
What You’ll Do
- Inspection Process Automation: Program, test, and validate automated or semi-automated metrology machinery, with a primary focus on Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
- Method Optimisation: Review existing inspection methods for complex machined components to remove labour-intensive manual checks and improve production flow.
- Drawing & Specification Review: Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and surface finish requirements as part of your daily quality checks.
- Bench Metrology & Inspection: Apply physical inspection knowledge using manual gauges, shadowgraphs, micrometres, and other standard metrology equipment.
- Emerging Technology Support: Help identify, adopt, and integrate future inspection automation and digital metrology solutions as the role evolves.
- Quality Validation: Execute measurement method validation and support investigations when product or equipment performance is uncertain.

What We’re Looking For
- CMM Programming Experience: Proven, hands-on experience programming a CMM is a strict requirement; candidates must be able to generate programs rather than simply running existing ones.
- Metrology Baseline: Practical metrology inspection experience, including bench work, manual gauges, and shadowgraph operation.
- Drawing Literacy: The absolute ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to establish correct acceptance criteria.
- Preferred Background: We are looking for experienced metrology inspectors seeking upward progression into a specialised technical role. Defence, aerospace, or automotive sector experience is highly desirable.
- Technical Literacy: Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office are required. An engineering degree, HNC, or HND is highly valued but not mandatory.
- The Mindset: A logical problem solver who can operate with training and support without needing continuous supervision. An understanding of GD&T is preferred, though exceptional candidates without it will be considered.

Interview Process
- Stage 1 (Telephone Interview): A detailed conversation with your Recruitment Business Partner to understand your background, logistics experience, and typical day-to-day workflow.
- Stage 2 (Final Face-to-Face Interview & Trade Test): A single, comprehensive 1.5-hour site interview at our Denham facility with the Hiring Manager. This will feature a technical conversation alongside a practical trade test where you will measure parts to demonstrate your inspection capabilities.
