Standard Job Description

Uses predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications to inspect visually in-process and completed products such as electronic units and subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies or mechanical units, subassemblies, structural flaws, internal defects, and missing welds. Uses various measuring devices. Accepts, rejects, or reworks defective or malfunctioning units or systems. Works from blueprints, diagrams, dial indicators, preset micrometers, scales, fixtures, customer specifications, drawing or inspection instructions and checklists. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

About The Role

The Quality Inspector (CMM) is responsible for verifying that products meet engineering, customer, and regulatory requirements through accurate inspection and measurement activities. The role supports production, NPI, and continuous improvement activities by ensuring product conformity and effective management of non-conforming material.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, edit, and run CMM inspection programs for production and development activities.
  • Perform first-off, in-process, and final inspections using CMMs and conventional measuring equipment, including verniers and micrometers.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements to verify product compliance.
  • Generate inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records.
  • Raise and manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), supporting containment and investigation activities.
  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and product qualification requirements.
  • Develop measurement solutions using CMMs and articulated arm equipment where required.
  • Support Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Control Plan activities to maintain process capability.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.

Required Skills, Qualifications And Experience

  • Experience programming, editing, and operating CMMs.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using manual inspection equipment such as verniers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to follow quality procedures and inspection standards accurately.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with PC-DMIS and/or PolyWorks Inspector.
  • Knowledge of Control Plans, SPC, and FAI (AS9102).
  • Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Experience with articulated arm measurement systems.
  • Previous experience within Aerospace, Defence, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
