Metrology Technician
Gaydon | Quality – Metrology | Double Days Shift Pattern | Permanent
At Aston Martin, precision is at the heart of everything we do. From the engineering of our iconic sports cars to the craftsmanship behind every vehicle, quality and accuracy are fundamental to delivering world-class performance. We are now seeking a Metrology Technician to join our Quality Metrology team in Gaydon, supporting vehicle production, new model development, and manufacturing excellence across our operations.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced metrology professional to work with advanced measurement technologies, supporting current production programmes and future vehicle launches, including some of Aston Martin's most innovative products.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Metrology, you will play a critical role in the measurement and validation of components, sub-assemblies, body structures, vehicle tubs, and finished vehicles. Working within the Metrology department, you will be responsible for carrying out accurate measurement activities that support production quality, engineering investigations, product development, and new model introduction programmes.
The role involves using a range of specialist metrology equipment including twin-column coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), bridge CMMs, Faro Arms, laser trackers, and handheld measurement tools. You will programme and operate measurement equipment, analyse results, and create detailed reports using software including CAMIO, PolyWorks, and PiWeb.
A significant part of the role will focus on production process control measurements across Aston Martin's sportscar range, including audit sample measurement activities and investigations into body, tub, assembly, and component concerns. You will also support new vehicle launches by measuring prototype and production-intent assemblies, helping to ensure products meet exacting quality standards before entering full production.
Working closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and product development teams, you will investigate dimensional concerns, interpret engineering drawings and CAD data, recommend measurement strategies, and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-focused metrology professional with a strong understanding of dimensional measurement techniques, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing processes.
You will have proven experience programming and operating twin-column and bridge CMMs using CAMIO software on LK Metrology equipment, alongside practical experience using Faro Arms and laser trackers. You will be confident analysing measurement data, identifying dimensional trends, and producing clear, concise technical reports that support manufacturing and engineering decision-making.
The successful candidate will be able to manage their own workload effectively, prioritise activities in a fast-paced environment, and work collaboratively across multiple functions to resolve engineering, assembly, and component-related issues.
Strong computer literacy is essential, particularly in Microsoft Excel, and experience using PolyWorks software is required. Experience with PiWeb Monitor and PiWeb Designer would be advantageous.
Skills and Experience
Candidates should have extensive metrology experience within automotive, engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, or a similarly precision-focused environment. A strong working knowledge of CMM programming and operation, measurement reporting, CAD interpretation, dimensional analysis, and quality inspection processes is essential.
You will have experience using conventional measurement equipment including Vernier calipers, micrometers, slip gauges, and other precision measurement tools. Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as pressing, hemming, casting, injection moulding, compression moulding, and machining would also be beneficial.
