MI & Analytics Manager
Reporting To
Head of MI, Analysis & Insight
Location
Remote/Flexible. 1 day per month in Leeds or Milton Keynes.

Role Purpose
There are three primary purposes to this role:
- Manage the delivery of business-critical reporting and insight to stakeholders across the business that underpins data-driven decision making.
- Lead, define and execute the migration of an existing reporting suite from spreadsheet-based processes into scalable BI or data platforms.
- Lead, coach and develop a small team of data analysts, building capability and improving technical and analytical skills.
This role requires a commercially aware individual that is a hands-on leader who can combine technical expertise, people development, and change management to build a scalable analytics function. They will be equally comfortable supporting and developing junior team members, engaging senior stakeholders, and leading the transition from manual reporting processes to a modern data-driven environment. The successful candidate will be au fait with insurance industry data, responsible for managing and developing a team of analysts, maintaining the delivery of business-critical reporting, and leading the migration of existing Excel-based reporting into a scalable data and analytics platform.
Key Responsibilities
Data Team Leadership
- Experience leading and developing a small data, MI or analytics team, preferably in the insurance industry.
- Ability to set priorities, manage workloads, and balance business-as-usual reporting with transformation activity.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior business leaders and operational teams.
- Experience creating a data-driven culture and improving how insight is consumed by the business.

Commercial Insight & Business Value
- Ability to translate complex data into actionable commercial insight.
- Experience prioritising reporting and analytics activity that drives revenue growth, operational efficiency, or customer value.
- Strong focus on delivering insight rather than simply producing reports.
Reporting Transformation & Platform Migration
- Proven track record of migrating reporting from spreadsheet-based processes into scalable BI or data platforms.
- Experience defining reporting architecture, data models, governance, and reporting standards.
- Ability to assess current-state processes and develop a roadmap for modernisation.
- Experience delivering change whilst maintaining existing reporting services.
Technical & Data Expertise
- Excellent understanding of insurance industry data.
- Strong understanding of data management, ETL processes, data quality, and reporting best practice.
- Experience with modern BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Qlik, or similar.
- Comfortable working with SQL and understanding database structures.
- Experience automating manual reporting processes and reducing key-person dependency.
Coaching & Team Development
- Demonstrable experience developing junior analysts.
- Ability to assess current capability gaps and create development plans.
- Experience mentoring team members in analytical thinking, stakeholder engagement, and technical skills.
- Passion for building a sustainable, high-performing team rather than acting as a sole technical expert.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience leading, managing, and developing a team of analysts.
- Experience managing stakeholders and translating business requirements into reporting and insight solutions.
- Proven experience delivering reporting, analytics or business intelligence services.
- Strong understanding of data management, data quality, reporting governance, and analytical best practices.
- Experience delivering reporting transformation projects and driving process improvement.
- Experience migrating or modernising reporting solutions from manual or spreadsheet-based processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
- Ability to balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day operational delivery.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing junior team members.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large-scale reporting solutions.
- Experience using business intelligence and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or equivalent.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will be a hands-on data and analytics leader, responsible for developing a small team, maintaining business-critical reporting, and leading the transition from Excel-based reporting to a scalable analytics platform, delivering meaningful insight that supports business growth and decision-making.
