The Role
The Microbiology Laboratory Technician Apprentice will work towards developing the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to support microbiological testing activities within a laboratory environment. Under supervision, the apprentice will assist with routine laboratory testing, environmental monitoring, media preparation, equipment maintenance, and documentation while following GMP, health and safety, and quality procedures.

This role provides a structured learning opportunity leading to a recognised laboratory science qualification while gaining practical experience in a pharmaceutical laboratory environment.
Qualifications And Experience Required
- Educated to at least A-level or equivalent. Holds 3 A-levels or equivalent, with one being in a STEM discipline
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) in Science, Mathematics and English
- Interest in Microbiology, Laboratory Science or Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
- Good attention to detail
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Have a flexible approach to new work challenges
Main Tasks And Responsibilities
- Preparation of microbiological media and media growth promotion testing
- Environmental monitoring in the microbiology laboratories and testing of water from the Manufacturing area
- Operation of the discard and media autoclaves
- Ordering and stock control of consumables for the microbiology laboratory
- Comply and adhere to GxP guidelines and regulations
- Show initiative and contribute to smooth running of the laboratory
- Maintain good housekeeping standards and waste management
- Assist with laboratory equipment checks and calibrations
- Work flexibly across the site to meet business needs
- Work with due regard to health and safety of self and others
- Maintain training records and apprenticeship documentation
