Microsoft Fabric Platform & Data Governance Lead

Location: London

Contract: 6 Months

Compensation: Day Rate DOE


We are seeking a senior Microsoft Fabric Platform & Data Governance Lead for an exciting engagement based in London.

This is a combined role requiring strong technical Microsoft Fabric expertise alongside proven experience leading enterprise data governance initiatives and engaging directly with business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft Fabric Platform

  • Review the current logical and technical design of the Microsoft Fabric platform.
  • Assess whether the existing architecture meets enterprise-grade standards.
  • Identify architectural risks, technical gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Define and introduce Microsoft best practices, reference architectures, and reusable templates.
  • Review areas including OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, Power BI, workspaces, security, and deployment.
  • Establish appropriate standards for scalability, resilience, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Produce a clear target architecture and prioritised improvement roadmap.

Platform and Data Governance

  • Lead the organisation’s data governance programme.
  • Establish clear data ownership, accountability, and decision-making responsibilities.
  • Define and embed Data Owner and Data Steward roles.
  • Lead workshops with business, data, technology, risk, and compliance teams.
  • Ensure all key governance areas are addressed, including data quality, metadata, lineage, classification, access, privacy, and data lifecycle management.
  • Establish practical governance policies, forums, controls, and reporting processes.
  • Ensure governance requirements are embedded within the Microsoft Fabric platform.

Required Experience

  • Deep technical expertise in Microsoft Fabric and the wider Azure data ecosystem.
  • Experience reviewing and designing enterprise-scale data-platform architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft architectural best practices, standards, and templates.
  • Proven experience leading data governance, stewardship, and ownership initiatives.
  • Ability to operate effectively across both technical and business environments.
  • Excellent senior stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills.
  • Experience producing practical architecture and governance roadmaps.
