Job description

Nlightn IT Ltd is a leading provider of proactive managed DBA services. Through a combination of real-time DBA monitoring and a wealth of DBA experience, our clients trust us to act on their behalf to manage the performance and availability of their mission-critical database environments.

Due to company growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Microsoft SQL Server DBA to join our support team. The role will suit an experienced and confident DBA who can take control of the tasks and projects assigned, whilst assisting with the wider support desk tasks and consultancy projects.

For the right candidate, the opportunity exists to extensively develop their role and career over time.

  • Microsoft SQL Server DBA: 5 + years of experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Server 2008 onwards
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 onwards
  • Familiar with supporting Azure SQL Server environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
  • Ability to organise and plan work independently
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to multi-task effectively between different activities and problems and projects

Description of Duties

The role is varied and will encompass any issue or question that arises within our diverse customer base.

Typical daily tasks include:

  • Troubleshooting and administration of Microsoft SQL Server installations
  • Liaising directly with customers to assist in problem resolution
  • Mentoring team members where appropriate
  • Qualifying and delivering changes via change control
  • Creation of technical documentation
  • Partaking in the 24x7 rota for P1 issues
  • Working within ISO and SLA orientated procedures

Specific consultancy work or project work will also form part of your duties from time to time. Such work is very varied and is assigned on a skills basis, either as a specialist in the product or as an opportunity to develop under the guidance of a product expert. Examples of such work are:

  • Installation and configuration
  • Estate upgrades

  • Performance tuning
  • Cloud suitability assessments and migrations
