What we are looking for
We are seeking a motivated mid-level Django Developer to join our engineering team and support the development of robust, scalable backend systems. You will play an active role in building and maintaining key services, contributing to technical discussions, and collaborating with other developers to deliver high-quality features. This opportunity would suit someone who is confident working independently on defined tasks and is ready to continue developing their technical ownership in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Django and Django REST Framework (DRF)
- Write efficient, well-structured PostgreSQL queries and manage database schema changes (migrations, indexing, performance tuning)
- Participate in code reviews and follow established security and quality standards (e.g. OWASP-based checks)
- Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate APIs and ensure smooth data flow
- Debug and resolve issues across the stack, including performance bottlenecks and data integrity problems
- Contribute to technical documentation and internal process improvements
- Work within CI/CD pipelines and version control workflows (Git, pull requests, pre-commit hooks)

Required Skills and Experience:
- 3+ years of professional experience with Django (or a similar Python web framework)
- Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL, including query optimization, indexing, and schema design
- Hands-on experience with Django REST Framework (DRF) for building RESTful APIs
- Experience with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows
- Familiarity with unit testing and writing maintainable, testable code
- Understanding of basic security best practices in web application development
- Comfortable working with Linux-based development/deployment environments
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments
- Familiarity with AWS services (e.g. RDS, EC2, WAF)
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible)
- Experience with frontend frameworks or JS-heavy features (e.g. DataTables, dynamic filtering UIs)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Experience working with JSON-based data structures for rule engines or configurable logic
Communication skills
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential.
- Assertive and confident.
- Empathetic with a positive attitude towards helping others.
Decision making and Accountability
- Take day to day decisions and work independently, referring non-standard matters to senior staff for direction.
- Demonstrate initiative, strong planning & prioritising skills and being pro-active.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in service delivery & efficiency.

- Professional IT qualifications or equivalent experience related to the role.
- Ability to work in an organised & structured manner.

Contract terms
This is a permanent full-time role (37.5 hours per week) working remotely but with the expectation to attend our office in Wokingham, Berkshire on occasions when required.
