Mid-Level Full-Stack Developer

Location: Hybrid - London

SharpEnd is an experience-led connected studio, partnering with ambitious brands to reimagine the real world as a connected platform. We design and deliver connected physical–digital experiences for global brands, from NFC-connected products and hardware-enabled products to mobile, web, and in-store systems.

We are hiring a mid-level Full-Stack Developer to join the studio's engineering team. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused.

The Role

You'll build and ship both the frontend and backend of studio projects, splitting your time between new feature work and improving what we've already shipped. You'll work closely with design and production to turn high-fidelity concepts into real, working products across web and mobile platforms - playing a direct role in how our connected experiences look, feel, and perform for some of the world's biggest brands.

You are accountable for the quality and craft of what you build, keeping codebases healthy as requirements layer on top of each other, and making sure what ships matches design intent without needing late-stage rework.

Success in this role is measured by:

  • Accurate, responsive UIs faithful to the designs, backed by reliable, well-structured APIs
  • Reliable, well-tested code that doesn't need late-stage reworks
  • Smooth collaboration with designers and other engineers across projects

Responsibilities

Hands-On Development

  • Build and ship new features across client and internal products, working across the full stack.
  • Maintain, refactor, and improve existing codebases across the studio's project portfolio.
  • Contribute directly to critical-path code, prototypes, and code reviews.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Backend & API Work

  • Design and build APIs using Express and/or Next.js (API routes / server actions).
  • Handle data modelling, authentication, and integration with third-party services.
  • Work with a combination of SQL and NoSQL database solutions.

Design Collaboration

  • Work directly with designers through Figma handoff and review.
  • Translate high-fidelity designs into accurate and responsive UIs.
  • Focus on building fully-accessible UIs from the ground up, not adding accessibility as an after-thought.

Code Quality & Systems

  • Write and maintain automated tests (Jest, Cypress, etc.) across frontend and backend.
  • Contribute to and help evolve the studio's design system, ensuring consistency of standards across projects.
  • Integrate with REST, GraphQL and SOAP APIs to connect our apps to a wide range of services as determined by our clients.

Delivery & Team Collaboration

  • Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
  • Work across multiple concurrent projects, balancing speed with craft.
  • Raise blockers and risks early rather than letting them surface late in delivery.

About You

Required

  • Curious, pragmatic, and cares about craft.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
  • Experience with Express and/or Next.js for building backend services or API routes.
  • Comfortable with data modelling, authentication, and integrating with third-party APIs.

  • Comfortable writing automated tests and integrating with GraphQL and/or REST APIs.
  • Happy working across multiple concurrent projects as part of a team.

  • Experience with AWS, other cloud infrastructure.
  • Three.js or other WebGL/3D experience — a plus for building immersive, interactive experiences.
  • Experience with state management libraries.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility (a11y) best practices.
  • Performance optimisation experience (Core Web Vitals, bundle size, etc.).

This Role Is Not For

  • Developers who want a single long-term product roadmap.
  • Candidates who prefer narrowly defined tickets over design collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Those who want to work in isolation rather than alongside designers and other engineers.

How This Role Adds Value Over Time

Beyond individual projects, this role helps the Studio raise the bar on full-stack craft - improving how we build, test, and reuse patterns across the frontend and backend, not just shipping isolated features.
