Senior Software Engineer (.NET/C#) - Belfast

About the Company

This is an established provider of technology and data solutions to the global financial and commodities markets, helping clients access liquidity and make better-informed trading decisions. The Belfast office has recently expanded into spacious new premises, with large communal areas and modern kitchens, and holds some of the highest staff retention rates in the local market alongside genuine opportunities for progression.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering business-critical software across the full development lifecycle, working within an Agile, cross-functional engineering team. You will work closely with Architects and Principal Engineers to design and deliver scalable, resilient solutions, taking ownership of key features from design through to release. This role suits an experienced, delivery-focused engineer who is comfortable balancing hands-on technical delivery with mentoring and driving best practice across the team. You will also help shape how the team adopts AI-enabled development tools within a strong governance framework, keeping code quality and delivery velocity high.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Architects and Principal Engineers to design solutions aligned with the wider IT strategy
  • Own the design, development and delivery of key features end-to-end
  • Partner with QA to embed robust testing practices and maintain defect-free delivery
  • Champion engineering best practice, including unit testing, code reviews and maintainable design
  • Apply AI-enabled development tools to improve productivity and code quality within enterprise risk frameworks
  • Evaluate and adopt new technologies, tools and methodologies to drive continuous improvement
  • Design solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements, including performance and scalability
  • Mentor junior engineers and support a collaborative, high-performing team culture
  • Communicate progress, risks and dependencies proactively, escalating early where needed

What You'll Need

Essential:

  • 5+ years' experience as a Senior Software Engineer in a complex, delivery-focused environment
  • Strong expertise in.NET (C#) across modern.NET Framework and.NET Core
  • Proven experience building distributed, real-time systems and scalable components
  • Solid relational database experience (e.g. MS SQL Server, MySQL), including schema design and optimisation
  • Proficiency in WPF application development
  • Hands-on experience with event-driven and asynchronous messaging architectures
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control (GitHub/GitLab)
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies across geographically distributed teams

  • Experience within financial services or trading platforms
  • Knowledge of the FIX protocol
  • Exposure to Java and/or JavaScript
