Mid-level Fullstack Software Engineer

Role Overview

We're looking for a Mid-Level Fullstack Software Engineer to join our engineering team and help deliver the next stage of Deploi's platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys writing and debugging code day to day, has strong foundational software engineering skills, and wants to develop their experience building enterprise software.

You'll contribute to enterprise-level features that reduce the time and manual effort required to take a worker from application to fully compliant. Our roadmap is focused on three areas: automation & scale, enterprise readiness, and product diversification.

You'll need to develop a strong understanding of the screening and compliance processes our software supports, while learning and applying the engineering practices required to build and sustainably maintain an enterprise platform.

You'll work within our established engineering processes and standards, with support and mentorship from experienced engineers. As you demonstrate ownership and become a trusted member of the team, you'll have increasing influence over technical decisions, UI and UX, and how future product features are shaped.

The Engineering Challenge

We're automating complex compliance workflows where correctness, auditability and user experience matter.

You'll work on problems spanning third-party integrations, asynchronous workflows, complex business rules and data models, AI-assisted processes, and the gradual modernisation of existing systems.

A major part of the challenge isn't simply shipping new features; it's learning how to build software that can scale sustainably as our customers, products and engineering organisation grow.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, test and release production features across our React and NestJS applications.
  • Deliver simple, maintainable solutions to complex product and engineering problems.
  • Take ownership of features through the development lifecycle, from understanding the problem and contributing to technical planning through to testing, release and ongoing maintenance.
  • Write and debug code every day across both frontend and backend systems.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of compliance screening workflows and translate complex business requirements into reliable software.
  • Work within agreed engineering practices, architecture and development processes while contributing ideas for how they can improve.
  • Diagnose and resolve production issues across both modern and legacy applications.
  • Contribute to automated testing, code reviews and maintaining the quality of the codebase.
  • Work closely with the Technology Director, engineers and product stakeholders to communicate progress, technical trade-offs and blockers clearly.
  • Explore new tools and technologies where they can improve our product or the way we build it.
  • DevOps ownership is not required for this role.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Our Stack

Our core stack includes:

  • React
  • TypeScript
  • NestJS
  • ORM
  • PostgreSQL
  • CI/CD
  • Cursor

You'll work across the stack, although we don't expect every candidate to arrive with deep experience in every technology we use.

We expect engineers to be comfortable using AI-assisted development tools as part of their normal workflow. We care less about which tool you prefer and more about whether you can use AI effectively while retaining engineering judgement, understanding the code you ship, and maintaining quality.

We're also exploring where AI can meaningfully improve the Deploi platform itself. We don't add AI for the sake of it but instead, where it can make compliance workflows faster, smarter or more scalable, our engineers will help us identify and build those opportunities.

Team Environment

You'll join a small engineering team of two engineers, working directly with our Technology Director and closely with the wider business.

Being a small team means your contribution is visible and your work matters. You'll have regular access to experienced engineers for technical discussions, code reviews and mentoring, while being expected to take increasing ownership of your work as your understanding of the platform grows.

We have established development processes, version control, automated CI/CD pipelines and engineering standards. We're looking for someone who can work effectively within those practices while helping us improve them over time.

Our platform includes both modern applications and legacy systems that we're progressively modernising, giving you experience of both building new software and improving production systems safely.

Skills & Experience

Required

  • Professional experience building production software as part of an engineering team.
  • Strong foundational programming skills — you should be comfortable writing, reading and debugging code without being dependent on frameworks or AI tooling to solve problems for you.
  • Experience building responsive user interfaces with React and TypeScript.
  • Professional experience developing backend applications and RESTful APIs. Experience with Node.js/NestJS is particularly relevant.
  • Comfortable working with relational databases and writing SQL, ideally using PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working with an ORM.
  • Confident using Git, including branching, pull requests and participating in code reviews.
  • Understanding of automated testing and why testing is important when maintaining production software.
  • Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, while retaining ownership and understanding of the code you produce.
  • Able to investigate problems independently, ask good questions and communicate clearly when you need support.
  • Interested in understanding the business problems behind the software rather than simply implementing tickets.
  • Interested in modernising and improving existing systems as well as building new ones.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with NestJS.
  • Experience working with complex business workflows or enterprise software.
  • Experience working with or modernising legacy systems.
  • Exposure to AWS or GCP.
  • Experience with Agile development practices and tools such as Jira.
  • Exposure to AI/LLM-powered products, automation or data engineering.

How You'll Grow

This role is designed for an engineer who already has solid hands-on development skills and wants to grow their technical capability, ownership and influence.

Initially, you'll focus on learning the platform, our engineering practices and the compliance domain while delivering features alongside the existing team.

As you build trust and experience, you'll take ownership of larger technical problems, contribute more heavily to solution design, influence the architecture and user experience of the platform, and help improve our engineering standards.

Progression isn't based purely on tenure. A Senior Software Engineer at Deploi is someone who can independently own larger technical problems, make sound engineering decisions, influence architecture, raise engineering standards and help other engineers succeed.

We'll agree development goals with you and regularly review your progress towards that level.
