Role: Middle Office Associate
The Middle Office Associate is responsible for providing full and comprehensive support to the Financial Futures and Equity Derivatives teams on a global basis, ensuring that all control, risk management and regulatory requirements are adhered to at all times. The role is ideally suited to a Middle Office professional with strong technical and derivatives product experience, rather than a traditional clearing operations background. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and leverage partnerships across the organisation to achieve business objectives, drive process improvements, and support the effective management of operational risk. In addition, the individual will be proactive, able to take ownership of key processes and issues, add value through continuous improvement initiatives, and establish themselves as a key operational contact within the team and across the broader business.
Responsibilities:
- A key member of the middle office providing comprehensive support to the financial futures front office and clients. Report and escalate issues timely to the Head of the team as well as relevant senior management of the Desk.
- Daily BAU activities include, but not limited to, reconciling trade positions and flows, managing trade lifecycles, sending trade confirmations and client statements, dealing with errors and ensuring all positions are flat hourly, as well as making sure all relevant trades are reported correctly to meet FCA, NFA and other regulatory frameworks.
- Contributing to the establishment of new controls, enhancement and automation of existing reconciliation tools and processes.
- Work closely and partner with finance, treasury, risk, audit and compliance departments.
- Maintain detailed operating procedures for the team and train new joiners to ensure business continuity and minimise staff risk.
- Trade allocations on various futures markets including but not limited to ICE, EUREX, CME, CBOT and all major Asian markets.
- Operating appropriate controls to capture and resolve trades not claimed within given timescales.
- Validation of daily volumes and P&L on behalf of the team of brokers.
- Working on projects for new system initiatives to meet the requirements of the trading team and our clients.
- On-boarding of new voice and electronic (DMA) execution clients.
- Assist with the set-up of new brokers that join our global team, working closely with the back office and trade support.
- Build relationship with our software vendors in order to troubleshoot any problems or any enhancements that we may require.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
