Middleweight Interior Architect

The middleweight interior architect role requires excellent conceptual and detailed design skills with experience working on high-end luxury projects. The role will involve design work such as concept development, space planning including lighting and electrical layouts, kitchen and bathroom design, bespoke joinery and furniture design, and technical design detailing as well as implementation of projects on site.

Responsibilities

Supervision and Collaboration:

  • Work under the supervision of the Head of Interior Architecture and Managing Director, collaborating with senior architects and design teams to develop interior design concepts.

Client Vision Incorporation:

  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand and incorporate their vision, preferences, and project requirements into the design process.

Space Planning and Design:

  • Optimise space utilisation, including lighting and electrical layouts, to enhance functionality and aesthetics.
  • Design kitchens and bathrooms, integrating client preferences and project requirements.

Material Selection and Specification:

  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of luxury materials, recommending and specifying suitable materials and finishes to align with project goals and client expectations.

Technical Design and Coordination:

  • Ensure meticulous attention to technical design detailing, addressing all technical aspects of the design to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with consultants as required, fostering effective communication and collaboration to integrate specialised expertise into the design process.

Full Project Coordination:

  • Coordinate full project lifecycle, from initial concept development to final implementation, ensuring design intent is maintained throughout.
  • Supervise construction progress and coordinate with contractors on-site, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines with support from Senior Designers if required.

Documentation and Quality Assurance:

  • Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, schedules, and specifications, to facilitate smooth project execution and communication with stakeholders.
  • Uphold high design standards and ensure client satisfaction through rigorous quality assurance measures, conducting regular reviews and adjustments as necessary.

Problem-Solving and Team Support:

  • Identify and creatively resolve design challenges as they arise, employing problem-solving skills to achieve innovative solutions while maintaining design integrity.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, contributing to the professional growth and development of junior staff members.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with team members, clients, consultants, and contractors to achieve project objectives efficiently and effectively.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Recognised interior design or architectural qualification.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in interior design or architectural practice, preferably focusing on luxury residential projects.
  • Practical knowledge of construction methods and execution of design intent.
  • Experience in developing and producing design packages from concept to construction detailing.
  • Proficiency in producing fixture and finishes specification schedules.
  • Initiative to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Client-facing experience.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

Skills Required:

  • Highly proficient in 2D CAD, preferably Vectorworks.
  • Great conceptual and presentation skills.
  • Strong design and space planning abilities.
  • Ability to communicate ideas through hand sketching.
  • Clear communication of design concepts to team members.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to produce clear and organised detailed design drawings.
  • Proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft Suite and using Mac preferable.
