Lumsden is an award-winning experiential design studio creating remarkable spaces and environments for some of the world’s most loved brands, museums and visitor destinations. Working internationally across experiential flagship retail, hospitality and cultural projects, we deliver unique, one-of-a-kind environments from concept through to completion.
Our work is rooted in storytelling and the visitor experience - bringing world-famous entertainment IP to life, and translating collections, heritage and culture into immersive environments that connect with modern audiences.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a thoughtful and talented designer to join our Clerkenwell studio as part of a growing design team, with the opportunity to play a key role in helping bring concepts to life with precision, craft and innovation from concept through to installation.
This is an exciting role for a designer who is ready to build on their creative and technical strengths and make a meaningful contribution to how a world-class studio delivers standout retail and hospitality experiences globally.
What You’ll Do:
Design & Project Contribution
- Play a key role in the design and delivery of retail and hospitality projects across cultural and visitor destinations, from concept to completion
- Take responsibility for key parts of creative development, helping to maintain design excellence and consistency across all stages of a project
- Collaborate closely with Directors and the wider team to help shape project narratives, pitch strategies and client presentations
- Balance creativity with commercial awareness, contributing to projects that are delivered on time and within budget
Technical Design & Delivery
- Confidently produce high-quality drawing packages, including spatial planning drawings, technical detailing, and specification documents.
- Drive design decisions that resolve creative intent and buildability
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants and suppliers to support seamless delivery
- Attend site visits and contribute to resolving on-site design and coordination challenges

- Present confidently to internal teams and clients, with a strong ability for storytelling through design
- Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors and collaborators
- Contribute to clear, engaging and persuasive project communication
Collaboration & Studio Impact
- Work collaboratively with junior and senior team members, sharing knowledge and supporting a positive studio culture
- Contribute to studio culture, innovation, and the continuous improvement of design processes
Who You Are
You are a capable and commercially aware designer who enjoys turning ambitious ideas into thoughtful, buildable realities.
Experience
- Relevant experience as a creative and technical designer in experiential, retail, hospitality or related environments
- Experience contributing to projects from concept to installation, ideally across commercial, cultural or visitor-focused environments such as retail, hospitality or F&B
- A versatile and conceptually driven designer who enjoys cross-discipline collaboration, applies innovative design thinking, and uses storytelling to create engaging spatial experiences
- Solid experience bridging design intent with delivery through project coordination, cross-discipline collaboration, and site-based support
- Knowledge of materials, detailing and fabrication, and strong interest in continuing to develop in these areas
Technical Capability
- Ability to realise design intent with strong 3D modelling and rendering skills in tools such as Rhino, SketchUp, Enscape (or similar), alongside the Adobe Creative Suite
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit, or the ability to become confident in similar technical tools quickly
- Experience producing detailed technical packages and supporting documents (for example FF&E schedules and tender documentation)

- Confident taking ownership of workstreams and comfortable being client facing
- Detail-driven, with a strong commitment to quality and craft
- Proactive in identifying opportunities to improve ways of working

Working Style & Expectations
- This is a full-time, studio-based role in our Clerkenwell office with a 5 month probationary period
- You will work closely with the wider team in a hands-on, highly collaborative environment
- The role involves flexibility and some travel, including UK and international travel for site visits, installations and client engagement where needed
- You will be actively involved across both studio and on-site project phases
