Starting salary: PO3 (£47,262 – £50,676)
Work location: Wood Green Library, 187 High Road, London, N22 6XD
Hours per week: 36
Working arrangements: Hybrid
Contract type: Fixed term contract (24 months from start date)

About The Role
We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Migrant Communities Employment & ESOL Coordinator to help make Haringey’s employment, skills and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision more joined-up, responsive and effective for refugees, people seeking asylum and vulnerable migrant communities. You will combine hands-on resident support with borough-wide coordination. Working in a trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally competent way, you will assess residents’ goals, skills, language needs, qualifications and barriers to work, then help them build realistic pathways through ESOL, volunteering, work experience, job trials and sustainable employment. You will also help residents navigate UK employment systems, workplace culture and the recognition of overseas qualifications. Alongside this casework, you will connect Haringey Works, Haringey Learns, the Resettlement Team, employers and external providers so that services operate as a coherent system. You will map provision, identify gaps and duplication, strengthen referral and progression routes, encourage employment-focused ESOL, and develop inclusive opportunities for residents with limited English or UK work experience. Accurate case records, outcome data and resident insight will be central to demonstrating impact and improving the offer.

About The Team
The role sits within Haringey Works, the Council’s employment delivery service, alongside Targeted Employment Advisers and reporting to the Haringey Works Specialist Team Leader. You will also work across the Resettlement Team and Haringey Learns, as well as with Housing, Benefits, Adult Social Care and other Council services. This is a highly collaborative role with strong links to employers, ESOL and skills providers, and voluntary, community and migrant-led organisations. Together, we aim to create welcoming and accessible pathways that recognise residents’ strengths, respond to migration-related barriers and support people to progress with confidence.
About You
You will have experience of supporting people from disadvantaged communities, people with complex needs or residents who are furthest from the labour market. You understand the barriers that refugees, people seeking asylum and migrants may face in accessing employment, and you can build trust with people who may have limited English, disrupted education or experience of trauma while maintaining clear professional boundaries. You will bring excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to coordinate partners, influence provision and constructively challenge barriers. You will understand recruitment practice, local employment and training pathways, ESOL progression and culturally responsive support. Experience of employer engagement or job brokerage, partnership coordination, and using data or insight to improve services will help you succeed. Creative, resilient and solutions-focused, you will be able to manage competing priorities while keeping residents at the centre of your work.
