Wave Group is recruiting on behalf of a client undergoing a large-scale infrastructure transformation programme within a complex, highly regulated environment. We're looking for an experienced VMware Migration Engineer to support the migration of 2,000+ servers across 70+ VMware hosts, moving workloads from the existing VMware estate onto a combination of Nutanix and OpenShift Virtualization.
This is a hands-on delivery role, not a BAU VMware position — we need someone who has personally planned and executed large-scale server and VM migrations, and can speak to that experience in detail.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting the migration of 2,000+ servers across 70+ VMware hosts
- Assessing the existing VMware estate — dependencies, migration requirements, risks
- Categorising workloads and mapping them to the right target platform (Nutanix or OpenShift Virtualization)
- Building detailed migration plans, runbooks and migration waves
- Running VM discovery, assessment, remediation and migration end-to-end
- Coordinating across infrastructure, application, network, storage and security teams
- Leading pre-migration readiness checks and post-migration validation
- Supporting rehearsals, cutover, rollback planning and troubleshooting
- Identifying dependencies that could impact migration
- Maintaining migration tracking, documentation and status reporting
- Supporting legacy VMware decommissioning once migrations complete
- Operating within established change, risk and governance processes for a regulated enterprise environment

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
