About the Opportunity
We are looking for a highly experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), who would hold the SMF17 Senior Management Function, to join MoonPay in the UK. You will own our AML/CTF and client asset protection (CASS) frameworks, act as a key voice in our regulatory relationship with the FCA, and contribute to MoonPay's application for full FSMA authorisation, all while enabling our mission to onboard the world to the decentralised economy.
You will sit within our International Compliance team, working closely with our Deputy MLRO, our EEA and international compliance colleagues, and our Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). Your work will directly protect customer funds and assets, strengthen our control environment, and help the wider authorisation effort land. As the UK entity grows, so will the scope of the role.

What You Will Do
- Serve as the appointed Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for MoonPay UK, holding the SMF17 Senior Management Function, and ensure full compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act, the Money Laundering Regulations, and related UK legislation.
- Develop, implement, and continually enhance MoonPay's AML/CTF framework, policies, and procedures in the UK.
- Lead the review, investigation, and reporting of suspicious activity to the National Crime Agency (NCA) through Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
- Own and maintain MoonPay UK's client asset protection (CASS) framework, ensuring robust controls around the safeguarding of client funds and assets, and be capable of holding the CASS Prescribed Responsibility.
- Deliver AML/CTF and CASS training across the business and champion a strong culture of compliance.
- Partner closely with global compliance, legal, and risk teams to ensure consistency across jurisdictions while meeting requirements specific to the UK.
- Play a key role in MoonPay's engagement with the FCA and external auditors on AML/CTF and CASS matters, working alongside senior compliance leadership.
- Contribute to MoonPay's FSMA authorisation programme, including regulatory submissions and supporting documentation within your areas of responsibility.
- Take on additional compliance responsibilities as the UK business and its regulatory obligations develop.

About You
You are a seasoned compliance professional who combines deep regulatory expertise with genuine curiosity about crypto and digital assets. You bring structure and rigour to ambiguous, fast-moving environments, and you know how to turn complex regulation into practical, workable controls rather than getting stuck in theory. You build trust easily, whether with regulators, auditors, or colleagues across functions and geographies, and you take ownership of outcomes rather than waiting to be told what to do. You are comfortable operating beyond the boundaries of your formal remit, and you see a growing regulatory perimeter as an opportunity rather than a burden. You are just as comfortable getting into the detail as you are advising senior stakeholders on strategy, and you are always looking for ways to do things better.
Must-have experience and skills
- Significant experience in compliance/AML roles, including at least 5 years in a registered MLRO or senior compliance officer role within financial services, fintech, or crypto, with the ability to be approved by the FCA under SMF17.
- Deep understanding of UK AML/CTF regulations, the wider regulatory landscape, and CASS rules.
- Proven experience engaging with regulators, drafting reports, and leading AML/CTF audits.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple functions and geographies.
- Experience working across a breadth of compliance disciplines, with the appetite to take on more over time.
- Passion for crypto, fintech, and the mission of financial inclusion.
Nice-to-have experience
- Experience within a cryptoasset or payments firm going through FCA registration or authorisation.
- Exposure to FCA regulatory requirements beyond financial crime, such as conduct, governance, or prudential.
- Familiarity with blockchain analytics and transaction monitoring tools such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, and Elliptic.
- Experience managing compliance across multiple jurisdictions, particularly EEA MiCA, Jersey, or other VASP regimes.
- Background in a fast-growing fintech or scale-up environment.

Bonus Points
- Professional qualifications such as the ICA Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering, ACAMS, or an equivalent certification.
- Prior experience holding an SMF designation with the FCA.
- Familiarity with Travel Rule compliance and related tooling.
